You will receive a letter from the Joseph K. Smith Memorial Summer Camp Fund for your taxes. For those of you who want to sponsor a children for camp this summer, there is still time to send your $125 check to me: Samantha Nolan, 2940 Northampton Street, NW Washington, DC 20015, before camp begins and registration is closed. Please make out your check to Joseph K. Smith Memorial Summer Camp Fund. Include your full address so your receipt can be mailed to you.

Thank you for your support. The children are in camp with MPD Officers, swimming, fishing, boating, and hiking. This is one way we can help prevent juvenile crimes. Samantha Nolan

Woodrow Wilson High School - now the good news

From: taluise@hapc.com

Wilson Senior High School has had its share of bad press lately. There
is however another side of Wilson which the neighborhood needs to know
about and to be proud of. For those of us who have sent our children
to DC public schools (for us, Janney, Deal and Wilson) and worked to
try to make the system better, I thought it was important to share the
following:

1. You may have seen the coverage recently about Newsweek's
best public schools in the US (of a total of 1300). In the press
coverage, only suburban schools were named. Absent from the press was
the fact that Wilson went from #359 last year to #129 this year. See
http://www.newsweek.com/id/39380. All these rankings are subjective,
but worth noting.

2. Not subjective is the Wilson's senior class '08 fabulous college
acceptance results at the nation's top schools. Not all the returns
are in, but here is a sampling, in no particular order, of colleges
where the Wilson class of '08 has received acceptances:

Yale (3)
Princeton (1)
Stanford (1)
University of Pennsylvania (3)
Columbia (1)
Dartmouth (1)
UC Berkeley (2)
Cornell (2)
Duke (1)
Georgetown (1)
Univ Virginia (5)
University of Chicago (2)
Barnard (3)
Univ Michigan (17)
Williams (1)
Wesleyan (3)
Amherst (2)
Swarthmore (1)
Washington University (St Louis) (3)
Vassar (2)
Vanderbilt (2)
Tufts (4)
Oberlin (1)
McGill (2)
Davidson (1)
St. Johns (7)
George Washington (6)
University of NC (2)
Penn State (15)
University Colorado (12)
University of Wisconsin (15)
University of Texas (2)

Now after all these years of not having to pay tuition, many of us
will have to now locate our checkbooks!! Yikes.

Re: GPS Thefts
AFTER HAVING MY CPS STOLEN I BOUGHT A HEAVY WEIGHT GPS HOLDER FROM AMAZON WHICH STAYS ON THE DASHBOARD WHILE DRIVING AND YOU CAN REMOVE IT AND PUT IT UNDER SEAT AFTERWARD LEAVING NO TELLTALE RING.

Hello,

I am a Wilson grad who is back from college for the summer and is
looking for some work. I have mowed lawns around AU Park for about 8
years. I charge $15-25 per lawn, and am available to do them
regularly. I am also an experienced handyman, and can do
landscaping, basic carpentry, painting, demolition, or anything else
you can come up with. For miscellaneous handyman services I
generally charge about $12 an hour.

DPW Announces Area's First Free Weekly Shredding Beginning Saturday,

Posted by: "Lyons, Nancee (DPW)" [email protected]

DPW Announces Area's First Free Weekly Shredding Beginning Saturday, May
24

Washington, DC - The Department of Public Works (DPW) announced today
that it will offer the metropolitan area's first permanent, weekly
document shredding service, for District residents only, at the Benning
Road Trash Transfer Station, 3200 Benning Road, NE. Two shredding trucks
will be on site each Saturday, beginning May 24, from 8 am to 3 pm.

"Recent studies show that more than one in four Americans was a victim
of identity theft last year," said DPW Director William O. Howland, Jr.
"Free, weekly shredding is an invaluable service to our residents - not
only will it give them peace of mind, it will help the District fight
this devastating crime."

District residents may bring up to five, medium-size boxes (no larger
than the standard District recycling bin, which is approximately 20" x
14" x 14") of personal documents to be shredded. Only paper (staples,
paper and binder clips on the paper are okay) and credit cards will be
accepted. No business or commercial material will be accepted.

Director Howland said, "This is the first time we have provided
shredding services for residents since the fall and we are asking them
to remain with their documents to witness the completion of the
shredding process." He added, "This may result in a slightly longer wait
but it will allow residents the security of knowing their personal
documents have been properly destroyed."

District residents also may bring household hazardous waste and unwanted
electronics between 8 am and 3 pm to the transfer station for proper
disposal.

Identity Theft Prevention Tips:

* Shred confidential information: bills, old credit cards, and
even junk mail.

* Order a credit report on an annual basis.

* Do not carry your Social Security card or have your Social
Security number on your driver's license or personal checks.

* Do not leave mail in your mailbox overnight or weekends.

* Only carry the credit cards you need.

* Consider signing credit cards "Ask for ID" instead of your
signature.

Benning Road, NE is under construction, so there may be traffic delays
as well. For more information, visit DPW's website at www.dpw.dc.gov
<http://www.dpw.dc.gov/> or call 311.

NANNY AVAILABLE

Posted by: "efpoulain" [email protected]   efpoulain

Wed May 21, 2008 7:08 pm (PDT)

We have been living in Washington DC for 3 years. As we schedule to
leave the city next summer to return to France, our wonderful nanny Eva
will be available at the end of July.

Eva has been with us for two years and she is terrific. She is really
reliable and kind with infants and toddlers (we have two sons - 2 years
and 4 years old). She speaks French and English. For the moment she
does not drive so she would like to find a familly in Maryland or in
Washington DC NW on the Metro RED LINE. She is allergic to cats.

Please feel free to contact me by Email (efpoulain@verizon.net) or by
phone (202 686 6982). You can also call Eva on her cell phone (240 441
1637).
