stolen bike

Around 6:00 PM on Thursday, August 16th, I left my bike leaning against the
side of my house. Real tough to see it there from the alley or the street.

I went inside to do a few things, came back out around 10 minutes later, and
the bike was gone.

Still tons of daylight, people all around, etc.

So--be careful out there.

And in the unlikely event, anyone knows anything about my bike--red Trek
hybrid, model 7300--please send me an e-mail.

Thanks.

new memoir by local author

Ever desire to read a masterful memoir by a local author? Well this isn't it. But it is a book
about my life, and I am a longtime resident of Friendship Heights.

As a photojournalist with US News & World Report I've spent much of the last 17 years racing
from one news story to the next?from a squalid leper colony in India to an American
research station on the Antarctic Peninsula, from the backrooms of the White House to the
battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan. "Evidence of My Existence" is my memoir of these years,
a manic exposition on my life in photojournalism, and on the consequences of my obsessive
wanderlust.

And though it doesn't include Richard Dorman conking me on the head with a bottle of
fortified wine (yes, that was me), there are plenty other pitfalls to keep your interest.

zoning violation approved at 4322 Fessenden St 3 storey extension

The DC zoning people have given a go ahead to build an extension of
4322 Fessenden St NW, however it is violating the minimum 8 feet rule
from the neighbors property line (it is being built about 3 feet from
the property line). The zoning people have refused to do anything about
it as the permit was already issued.

Tenleytown Heritage Trail

TENLEYTOWN HERITAGE TRAIL
SECOND MEETING
Tenleytown Interim Library 4200 Wisconsin Avenue
Sunday Afternoon, September 16, 2007
2:00PM ? 4:00PM

Sponsored by
Tenleytown Neighbors Association http://tenleytowndc.org/
Tenleytown Historical Society www.tenleytownhistoricalsociety.org
In partnership with Cultural Tourism DC www.CulturalTourismDC.org
This will be the second of our series of six meetings to develop the Tenleytown Heritage Trail. Our very successful kick-off meeting was held June 20. We now invite the community to attend a session for sharing stories, remembrances, and vintage pictures. We will be making sound recordings of your stories and photocopies of the pictures. If you had family in Tenleytown, grew up here, or have lived here for a long time, please join us, and extend this invitation to people without computer access who might have valuable information and pictures. Those who attended the first meeting are, of course, also invited to this one.
The Tenleytown Heritage Trail will be part of the Washington, DC, Neighborhood Heritage Trails, a series of self-guided walking tours consisting of poster-sized signs installed in 90-minute walking loops through historic city neighborhoods. Heritage Trails are developed by neighborhood working groups and the nonprofit Cultural Tourism DC. The Heritage Trails are a project of Cultural Tourism DC, funded by the District Department of Transportation using federal Transportation Enhancement funding.
When our Tenleytown Heritage Trail is completed, there will be handsome, freestanding informational signs at about seventeen sites, plus a beautifully designed brochure that can be picked up at local businesses. The Trail will attract residents and tourists to the rich history of our neighborhood.
