March with the Mayor on April 16

March with the Mayor on April 16

Today, (Tuesday, 3/13) the House Oversight and Government Reform
Committee reported favorably on DC voting rights by a vote of 24-5.
Tomorrow, the bill is going to have a hearing in the House Judiciary
Committee (10 a.m. in 2141 Rayburn), followed by a mark-up in the
same committee on Thursday.

We are very hopeful that this will lead to full representation in
the House of Representatives for DC residents, but we must continue
to tell the nation about the need to treat all citizens equally in
both houses of Congress.

On DC Emancipation Day, Monday, April 16, 2007, a holiday for DC
Government and DC Public Schools, Mayor Adrian Fenty will lead the
largest Voting Rights March in DC History.

Mayor Fenty has created a website at:
http://www.dc.gov/mayor/voteMarch.shtm with more information,
including downloadable flyers about the March in English, Spanish,
Chinese, Vietnamese, and Korean.

Please distribute this information widely and pledge to march with
us at http://www.votingrightsmarch.org. We need full participation
to get full representation.

From: Susan Banta <bantaberg@starpower.net>

As the Chief of Staff and Director of Constituent Services,
respectively, for Ward 3 Councilmember Mary Cheh, we wanted to take a
moment to introduce ourselves and let residents know how best to
reach us. Although we have posted here before with alerts to
community events in the Ward, and many of you have met us at
community meetings, we wanted to take this opportunity to reach out
to everyone on the listserv.

Our offices are located in Suite 108 of the John A. Wilson Building,
1350 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW. Please contact Susan Banta by email at
sbanta@dccouncil.us; Dee Smith by email at dsmith@dccouncil.us; or
any member of the staff by phone at (202) 724-8062. Please feel free
to contact us if we can be of assistance.

Finally, we should be announcing the location of our Ward 3
Constituent Services office in the coming weeks, and will be sure to
post contact information for that location soon. We look forward to
serving you.

Sincerely,

Susan Banta
Chief of Staff
Office of Councilmember Mary M. Cheh

Dee Smith
Director, Constituent Services
