March with the Mayor on April
16
Today, (Tuesday, 3/13) the House Oversight and Government Reform
Committee reported favorably on DC voting rights by a vote of 24-5.
Tomorrow, the bill is going to have a hearing in the House Judiciary
Committee (10 a.m. in 2141 Rayburn), followed by a mark-up in the
same committee on Thursday.
We are very hopeful that this will lead to full representation in
the House of Representatives for DC residents, but we must continue
to tell the nation about the need to treat all citizens equally in
both houses of Congress.
On DC Emancipation Day, Monday, April 16, 2007, a holiday for DC
Government and DC Public Schools, Mayor Adrian Fenty will lead the
largest Voting Rights March in DC History.
Mayor Fenty has created a website at:
http://www.dc.gov/mayor/voteMarch.shtm
with more information,
including downloadable flyers about the March in English, Spanish,
Chinese, Vietnamese, and Korean.
Please distribute this information widely and pledge to march with
us at
http://www.votingrightsmarch.org.
We need full participation
to get full representation.
