Can anyone recommend a replacement-window contractor?

July 25th:  2D CAC Special Meeting

July 25th: 2D CAC Special Meeting re: Proposed 2D Expansion

From: jjhaglaw@aol.com

As previously noted by 2D CAC Chair Samantha Nolan, there is an MPD
meeting concerning the proposed expansion of the Second District to
include current PSA 306 scheduled for next Wednesday, July 18, at 6:30
PM, at St. Columba's Church, 4201 Albemarle Street, NW. (See e-mail
from Sgt. Mapp below for further information).

Given the importance of the proposal to the public safety in the
Second District, a 2D CAC special meeting has been scheduled to
provide an opportunity for the 2D CAC to consider the issue, on the
following Wednesday, July 25, 2007, at 7:00 pm, at the Second District
HQ, 3320 Idaho Avenue, NW.

Subject: [ChevyChase] MPD Meetings on Expansion of Second District

MPD to Seek Input on
Proposed Move of PSA
306 to Second District

What is this Meeting About?

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) is considering making some
adjustments to the organizational boundaries of its Second and Third
police
districts. In an effort to improve service, Chief of Police Cathy L.
Lanier is proposing a change in
the service boundaries of the Second and Third Districts by shifting
Police Service Area (PSA) 306
into the Second District, and renaming it PSA 208. The physical
boundaries of the police
service area will remain the same, but the organizational change
will enable better
coordination of service, communication, and management of resources.

Why is MPD Recommending this Change?

The primary reason for the adjustment is to resolve a workload
imbalance between the Second District, which handles just 5%
of "Priority 1"
(emergency) calls, and the Third District, which currently accounts
for over 21%
of these calls. The high call volume has led to a rise in the amount
of radio traffic, reducing the efficiency of police communications.
Additionally, the
stress on structural resources such as the use of district lockup
facilities,
report-writing rooms, and other elements of the police stations is
similarly
imbalanced in the present arrangement.

How Will This Change Affect the Community?

Police coverage in this part of the city will remain identical to
what exists today; the change is strictly an organizational one. The
benefit will be an
equalized workload and improved communication at the police district
level.
Managerial resources would also be improved in the new scenario.
Commander
Andrew Solberg and the Second District team are ready to work with
the residents to ensure high-quality police service.

How Can I Weigh In?

MPD wants the community's input before moving forward on this
proposed plan. Two community meetings are planned to get your input
and answer questions. Assistant Chief Peter
Newsham (commander of Regional Operations Command–North), Commander
Larry McCoy (Third District ) and Commander Andy Solberg (Second
District)
invite you to join them at one of the meetings listed at left.
Residents unable to
attend the meetings in person may also send their comments and
questions via e-mail to
psa306.move@.... To see the current boundaries of PSA 306, please

website at www.mpdc.dc.gov/3D.

I don't see what 42d and Van Ness has to do with the bottleneck problem
at River and 46th.

Tenleytown Fireman's Funeral Procession - Saturday

From: Amy McVey <amybmcvey@msn.com>

The young Tenleytown firefighter who died in the line of duty will be
buried tomorrow, Saturday, July 14. At approximately 2:05 pm, the
traditional firefighter funeral procession will pass the quarters of
Engine 20 where James McRae was assigned to Truck 12.

The procession starts at the convention center, proceeding out
Massachusetts Avenue, turning north onto Wisconsin Avenue to pass the
Tenley Firehouse. It will then turn right on Tenley Circle to
Nebraska Avenue, right on Connecticut Avenue returning downtown and
from there to the cemetery.

Viewing the procession is an opportunity for the neighbors to
participate in a solemn tribute to our lost firefighter.

We emailed a request to the Department of Transportation Request Center
to put up no parking signs between Garrison and Western but have not had
a response, although one was due from the DTRC July 6, 2007. We have
also contacted our ANC representative, Talia Primor (with a cc to Mary
Cheh), and have had no response from them either. BTW most of the cars
that are parked during the day are from Maryland and we believe they are
construction workers at the Friendship Heights site.
