New City Street Trees

I have a couple of additions:

1. Do not use string trimmers around trees, even tiny cuts around the
trunk severely damage trees.
2. Do not use herbicides near trees, for example, Roundup.

We have found that rain water collected in a barrel is great for watering
our trees.

Enjoy the shade,

Kate McLynn

Neighborhood college students Connor and Devon Rook do lawn and yard
clean-up and maintenance. They are reliable and reasonable. Their number
is 240-417-6511. Posted by Anne Novak.

From: Maura Reynolds <maura_reynolds@yahoo.com>

Neighbors,

Alas, we do not live in a crime-free neighborhood. Last night shortly
before 5 a.m. I was awakened by a popping sound coming from the street
outside my house on the 4800 block of Alton Place NW. When I looked
out the window, I saw a man breaking into a neighbor's car. I dialed
911, and was able to describe what I saw as it was happening: a
slight, African American man wearing baggy gray pants and a black
t-shirt, with close-cropped hair, leaning into the driver's side
window and then running down the street toward Mass Ave. He stole the
car radio and a bag that was inside the car. The police, when they
came, said he knew what he was doing -- by breaking the glass he did
not trigger the car alarm, and by leaning in the window, he left no
fingerprints.

Consider this a reminder not to leave anything in cars parked on the
street. We don't want to make this neighborhood an even more lucrative
stalking ground for thieves. And I'm sure the police would be grateful
for any information others may have that may help catch the person or
persons responsible.

Searching for a Seamtress

I'd love any recommendations for a local seamstress to help make a
couple pieces for me (skirts and dresses). Please send me any
recommendations if you've used anyone for work beyond the typical hems
and tailoring. Thanks

Amanda
