Not Your Average Music Festival

Posted by: "Ron Leve" [email protected]   dupontcircleron

You might wonder where in DC you might find these events in the same music
festival: a Bluegrass Concert with Dead Men’s Hollow, a chamber music
concert with the Fessenden Ensemble, jazz with the Davey Yarborough Big
Band and Esther Williams, two amazingly diverse choral events; Orpheus, The
Marriage of England & Spain Music for King Philip II of Spain and the
English Court of Queen Mary and a choral and orchestra extravaganza in the
Mass for Children created and led by John Rutter who founded the Cambridge
Singers. Finally, there is an free organ concert on a magnificent Dobson
organ in a building that dates to the early 18th Century. This is in
addition to a number of free daytime events.

This all takes place at the Fifth Annual Rock Creek Festival put on by St.
Paul's Rock Creek Episcopal Church on the grounds containing St. Paul
Church which still retains portions of its original 1721 building and the
Rock Creek Cemetery with its famous Adams Memorial by Augustus St. Gaudens.

The Festival runs from 16 to 22 June with more information at
www.stpaulsrockcreek.org.

2D Summer Camp and 2D Awards Banquet

From: Samantha Nolan <nolantutor@yahoo.com>

This year, the Second District MPD will hold a Summer Camp for Kids
from June 14 to August 26. While the other Districts have had Summer
Camps in the past, this will be the first opportunity for the Second
District to have a Camp. Activities are planned for everyday
including field trips, sports, arts and crafts and more. To run a
camp, funds are needed from the community to pay for supplies, buses
for field trips and entry fees. If your organization can help with
this project by making a donation to the Camp, it would be greatly
appreciated. Please contact Officer Ava Cole to coordinate the needs
of the camp with your availability to donate supplies or contributions
towards costs. Checks can be made out to 2D MPD CAC. This is the
Citizens Advisory Council for the Second District MPD. Our Treasurer
will coordinate the donations and the distribution of funds. We need
your help to have a successful Camp experience. If your organization
has grants, please let us know how we may apply.

The Second District CAC is sponsoring an Awards Banquet for the
Officers this year. It has been five years since our last Awards
Banquet. This year, on July 12, we will honor our officers who have
exhibited exemplary service to the community by sponsoring a Banquet
at Maggiano's Little Italy at 5333 Wisconsin Avenue at Friendship
Heights, from 6:00 - 10:00 pm. There will be a four course meal with
wine for $40 per person. We hope to fill at least 7 tables (one for
each PSA) with community leaders to show our support for the work done
by our MPD Officers.

If you would like to purchase a ticket or a table to this event,
please let me know. I will arrange to get the tickets to you. You
can make out your check for the tickets to 2D MPD CAC. Please spread
the word of our Banquet and our Camp to your Citizen/Civic
Associations and ANCs.

Thanks for your help with these two important projects.

Samantha Nolan
Chair, 2D MPD CAC

From: Eli Johnson <elijohnson@rcn.com>

I have a recommendation for an excellent guitar instructor. Her name
is Heather McKay and for the past few years she has taught my daughter
and a number of her friends. She teaches both classical and rock
guitar. She is very good with children of all ages, but she also
teachers teenagers and adults. Heather will work with you to find a
convenient time to meet and she will come to your home. Heather can
be reached at 301-578-8586 or at hjmckay@comcast.net Thanks, Eli Johnson
