INFO on PORCH SWINGS

Posted by: "[email protected]" [email protected]

Does anyone have a somewhat newly purchased, "new" porch swing? We are
about to buy one and I'd like to know where to purchase one, and see a couple of
models in action.

Please send me your comments - and your address privately if I can come by,
swing on it for a minute with my 5-year-old, and later ask questions about
price and where you bought. I don't know if I should order by Internet, or
whether there is a local store selling swings (which I prefer).

Thanks, lisa 202-363-3639

Application for Zoning Variance:  Call to Arms

This is to encourage anyone who cares about such issues to attend an
upcoming ANC meeting to oppose the application being made by a local
developer to build a two-story house on an alley lot that is
currently a lovely, open, green space much used by many members of
the community. The lot is part of the triangular piece of property
located within the triangle formed by Chevy Chase Parkway, Reno Road
and Harrison Streets N.W. It is identified as Square 1877, Lot 0037,
and you may view the particulars at www.hosmerlot.org. The property
had been owned since 1941 by the Hosmer family. It was purchased
some months ago by Alley Cat Mews (Mr. Merwin) for about $36,000,
which promptly put the property on the market for an asking price of
$125,000. Merwin has refused to consider an offer we neighbors made
to him to buy the property from him and instead recently filed an
application for a variance of the zoning regulation which prohibits
him or anyone who buys the land from building on an alley that is as
narrow as this one is.

Those of us who live adjacent to the property intend to vigorously
oppose the application. We would very much appreciate a show of
support at the ANC meeting, which will be held at 7:30 pm on June 11
at the Chevy Chase Community Center, 5601 Connecticut Avenue N.W.
