Looking for A room

COMMUNIT-EI have a male acquaintance from France who is looking to rent a room with kitchen privileges for $700 a month. He wants to be within walking distance to Wisconsin Ave. He may want to rent for 6 months to a year. He is in the process of opening a clothing store in Georgetown and needs a temporary place to stay until the store is operating.

Reply to property assessment appraisal question

I called the assessor whose number is listed on your assessment letter.
He returned my call the next day and was very helpful. He promised to
send the information about my home which provided the basis for his
assessment. The data bases on assessments and recent sales on the web
site listed on the letter also provide essential information for an
appeal.

What a fantastic story! His parents should also be commended highly for supporting his effort. They have given over their porch and privacy and a lot of control of their lives to his dedication.

I guess I should have been more clear. My question was *not* about the traffic light. My question was about what how the Mayor's call center is supposed to function.

I contacted them three times. The first time they took a number and said "Good bye." The second time I gave them the number, they wrote it down and then they said "Good bye." The third time, they sent me to someone who gave me an answer.

Is that the way it's supposed to work? Are you supposed to call them three times before you get an answer? Are they supposed to send you to the right person the first time? What's the work order number for?

*That's* what I was asking about.

Sorry for the misunderstanding,
Richard Paul

When the Mayor's call center doesn't work

Just to follow up on my earlier post today: minutes ago I discovered I didn't have one of the forms I need to file to make my unemployment contribution for my household worker. I went to the website (www.dc.gov), located the appropriate office and called the number given for that office (this time I didn't send an email request). Within minutes I had made arrangements for the form to be both faxed and mailed to me. Eureka! The system works!

City's Internet Complaint Center

I have used the City's internet complaint center to report burned out alley lights, to request lawn debris pick up and a new recyling can, to check on my voter registration and to get information about renewing my driver's license via email. The City has responded promptly in each instance. I don't have the website handy, but if you go to the D.C. government site, you'll find the appropriate link. I never call anymore. Does anyone have a recommendation of someone who would rototill and add
amendments to a small (10' square) area? Might amount to a half day's work.

The light is suppose to be blinking. There is nothing wrong with the
light. Next week, the new phase of the light will begin, but only
after educating the public to how it will work. The light will be
yellow on Connecticut until someone pushes the pedestrian button to
walk. The light will then go red when the lights at McKinley and
Livingston go red. The pedestrian can then walk. All four directions
of the light at Morrison will be solid red, so that no cars can go
while pedestrians are walking. There will be no right on solid red
signs at this intersection.
