Cat needs good home

BIG LOVABLE CAT NEEDS HOME

This all black kitty was found as a stray and is perhaps four years
old. She is spayed and has all her shots. She is a lover â€" sweet,
friendly, playful and absolutely t entertaining. She can be easily
and permanently discouraged from undesirable behaviors (such as
scratching furniture) â€" she likes to play, is okay with being held,
and loves attention!

She is overweight and her food intake needs to be regulated. It would
be best if she was in a home with no other cats (or even dogs), or in
a home with only male cats (she is competitive and territorial with
females) who are also on restricted diets, so that controlling her
food intake doesn’t put stress on anyone else in the household.

We cannot keep her because we have an old, frail cat â€" she is very
energetic and wants to play and she has knocked him over more than once!

If you are interested in giving her a warm, safe home, please contact
Naomi Rose at 240 401 4269

Unwanted Examiner delivery

Posted by: "Philip Bogdonoff" [email protected]

Fri May 4, 2007 8:05 am (PST)

The Examiner delivery issue appears to be chronic. Thanks for everyone's efforts and the tips offered. I had success many months ago by calling the paper directly. It appears that method may not always be effective. There is now a house on the corner of Fessenden where the papers are piling up.

One possible additional tactic is to contact the marketing reps of the businesses that advertise in the Examiner and explain to them that the paper is generating ill-will by its behavior. Ask the reps to politely convey this to the Examiner next time they place an ad.

ACCIDENT ON 46TH STREET

Posted by: "kathysmithindc" [email protected]   kathysmithindc

Fri May 4, 2007 8:17 am (PST)

From: americanuniversitypark@yahoogroups.com
Accident on 46th Street - What we know so far.
>
> 2:00am Sunday
>
> At approximately 2:00am, a police officer clocked a late model
Camaro convertible going 120mph down Massachusetts Ave. By the time
he pulled out he could see the car turn onto our residential street,
46th going north, still going at high speeds. The convertible
traveled about eight blocks to our intersection. Before you read on,
know that no one was hurt.
>
> He first crashed into one car near the intersection of Butterworth
and 46th. Throwing it onto the sidewalk and wrapping it around a
tree. That car is totaled beyond belief.
>
> Then he crashed into the second car, totaling that car and pushing
it into a third car causing rear damage.
>
> Then he spun out of control, took out the entire side of a fourth
car (possibly totaled pending an insurance assessment).
>
> Then he landed on the curb in front of our house, partially resting
on our convertible' s bumper. Amazingly enough, our car seems to have
really minor damage to the front grill. Which is quite fortunate
since the offending car was a crumpled ball of metal.
>
> We were searching around with flashlights, expecting to find a
severely injured or dead driver. We searched in the yards after we
couldn't find anyone in the vehicle. Amazingly enough, a couple of
people who were walking on the street said they saw the guy get out
of the car and run away! Seemed impossible, but apparently he was not
seriously hurt. Then we assumed the car was stolen. But at around
3am, the police determined, after speaking to the owner, that the
driver was the guy's 22 year-old son. As of 4:30am, they still hadn't
found him, but they obviously know where he lives. We're supposed to
get a police report in about a week.
>
> There are a number of things that make this accident so incredible,
but the most significant thing is that no one was hurt.

WARNING  --  FIRE HAZARD

Posted by: "kathysmithindc" [email protected]   kathysmithindc

Fri May 4, 2007 9:51 am (PST)

Do not use heat to remove paint. Let me say that again -- do not
use heat guns or similar devices to peel off paint. They frequently
cause fires. This is believed to be what happend at Georgetown
library. It also happened to a neighbor of mine. A police lieutenant
told me he's seen seval house fires caused by heat guns.

Apparently they can start a slow smolder that is not detected by the
workmen. After the workers leave, the smolder can continue until it
flares up.

There have been many instances of this happening. You can protect
your home by insisting that painters use scrapers and other nonheat
tools to remove paint.

From time to time I’ve seen a man hanging around Chipotle who fits the
general description of the person described in Jim Loscalzo’s post. This
individual often appears agitated and volatile. Sometimes he sweeps the
sidewalk and street with a broom. Other times I’ve seen him using a hose to
wash the sidewalk in front of Chipotle. He often speaks loudly to no one in
particular and at times hurls a string of loud obscenities to passersby
including me. It’s not clear what sets him off but my concern has been that
the violence in his speech could turn physical. I’ve avoided encountering
him whenever possible and have not seen him for a number of weeks. Does
anyone know if this might be the individual who assaulted Jim?

Help Send A Child To Camp Brown

METROPOLITAN POLICE DEPARTMENT
CHIEF OF POLICE CITIZENS ADVISORY COUNCIL
JOSEPH K. SMITH MEMORIAL SUMMER CAMP FUND

Dear Friend:

You can make a difference in the life of a child.
Help send a child to summer camp.

The Metropolitan Police Department is working to send children to Camp
Ernest W. Brown. Camp Brown is operated by MPD officers and staff of
the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Washington.

Please mark your calendar now for the Third Annual Joseph K. Smith
Memorial Summer Camp Benefit Dinner which will take place on Friday,
June 1, 2007, from 6:30 p.m. until 10:00 p.m., at the Washington Navy
Yard, Conference and Catering Center 1454 Parsons Avenue, S.E.,
Washington, D.C.

This is your chance to help children escape the stress of inner-city
living for one week during the summer to experience camp in the
country. For some of these children, it is their first experience
outside of the city.

As a result of last year's fund-raising efforts, we were able to
sponsor 70 children at Camp Brown and renovate six of the forty cabins
that were damaged by Hurricane Isabelle in 2003. This year, we would
like to double the number of children sponsored and renovate as many
additional cabins as possible. Only with your help, can we restore
Camp Brown to its pre-hurricane condition, and permit hundreds of
inner-city youth the opportunity to experience a week-long summer
getaway that is fun and educational.

You can assist in this effort by purchasing tickets to attend the
benefit dinner, taking out an ad in the commemorative program booklet,
sponsoring a child at camp, or making a donation. Tickets for the
dinner are $40.00 each, or $400.00 for a table of ten. For ad rates in
the program, please see the attached flier. A donation of $100.00 will
sponsor a child at camp for a week. Any donation you are able to make
will be greatly appreciated. In this connection, please make checks
payable to the "Sixth District MPD Citizen's Advisory Council", our
501(c) (3) partner.

For more information, please contact Mr. George W. Fenderson,
Chairperson, at 202 Varnum Street, NW, Washington, DC 20011-7321, or
at (202) 291-6727.

------------------------------

Camp Brown, named after former police chief and co-founder, Ernest W.
Brown is operated through a partnership agreement between the
Metropolitan Police Department and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater
Washington. This year, one-week camp sessions will be held beginning
July 9, through August 17, 2007. The camp is located about 80 miles
south of Washington, DC in Scotland, Maryland.

For seventy years, Camp Brown has been a place for the District's
school-aged youth between the ages of 7 and 13 to escape the busy city
for a week-long vacation. The campers stay in wooden cabins on 168
acres of land alongside the Potomac River where they enjoy swimming,
biking, fishing, motivational speaking, and many other structured
activities. Camp counselors include police officers who are trained to
work with youth, as well as certified staff. For information on the
cost of the camp, call 202-397-CLUB (2582), ext. 8190 or visit

About the "lawnmower man" Richard Dorman, I endorse the comments made. I didn't
know his name, but he came to my house late one night, around 10:15 p.m.. He
apologized for disturbing us, and told me a long sad tale about having just
started a job at some gas station in Rockville. He had his lawn mower with him,
and said he knew it was really too late to mow, but he needed metro money to get
to his job the next day. Against my better judgement, I gave him $5, really to
get rid of him.

Thanks for letting us know his name and that he really is someone we should be
wary of.
