Junk hauler

We have used 1-800-Got-Junk several times. They are not cheap, but they
are reliable and careful, and they take small loads. Their prices are
based on the volume of the stuff they take.

be on the lookout for the lawn mower man

aka richard dorman--@ 5 foot 11, 170 pounds, 50 years old, african american, often goes
door to door asking for a handout or to mow your yard.

i had long considered him a harmless, and perhaps homeless, drunk; until last sunday
(4/29) morning, when he assaulted me on the front steps of my house. he bashed me in
the head with a bottle. i got 22 stitches, he got sent to jail.

the incident began the day before at about 5 pm, when i saw him coming through my back
gate and walking into my back yard. i told him to get out, and he mumbled something
under his breath, then left. the following morning, at about 9:30 am, i was playing in the
family room with my son when someone started screaming at me from my front door. i
turned to see dorman staring at me through my storm door (the main door was open,
unfortunately) he was crazed, screaming in terms far less civil than this that he didn't like
the way i hold told him to get out my yard, that he was gonna kick my ass, etc... i thought
he was gonna come in, and quickly pushed him out of the doorway. that's when he
brought the bottle down on my head.

dorman was released pending a grand jury trial for felony assault. in the meantime he has
a stay away order from the neighborhood (the boundaries are fessenden to the south,
western to the north, wisconsin to the west, and chevy chase parkway to the east). if
anyone sees him violating that order can you please call the police? and by all means stop
employing the man! he is violent, unstable, and a threat to the neighborhood.

thanks so much...

Examiner Delivery

Perhaps one solution to these unwanted deliveries would be to collect
several weeks' worth of newspapers (the soggier the better) and dump them
at the front door of the Examiner's offices or on the desks of the
Examiner's executives!

Thu May 3, 2007 6:34 pm (PST)

Hello,

If you are a development director, financial officer, or senior
management at a non profit organization, this is a brownbag for you. On
Wednesday May 9th, from 12:30 PM-1:30 PM, at Friends of the Earth
(located at 1717 Massachusetts Avenue, NW, Suite # 600-a scant 2 blocks
from Dupont Circle South entrance) DC Fundraisers will have a brownbag
lunch featuring Art Taylor, head of the Better Business Bureau Wise
Giving Alliance. Art will be providing a one hour talk about charity
standards and their charity seal program used to indicate a non-profit's
adherence to their comprehensive standards for charity accountability.
He will also explain how local groups can qualify for the Seal Program,
and what raises a red flag for them as they evaluate a non profit
organization. This event is FREE and open to the public. For more
information send a message to [email protected]

Examiner  - How I stopped the paper.

Posted by: "Jan Phalen" [email protected]

Thu May 3, 2007 6:35 pm (PST)

It took me three-four weeks to get the Examiner stopped. Below are the
names and numbers of the people I called daily, except Sunday.

Becky Brown, Examiner, Manager, Circulation: 800-531-1223. Useless. I
stopped calling after the first few days.

Teresa Brown, assistant to Tom DeSimone, Regional VP, Circulation:
703-738-0754; very helpful after the first few calls.

Richard, NewsOne Distributors in Greenbelt: 240-473-6838. He got my zip
code incorrect, which took a few days to rectify. He made a number of
promises but did not follow thru until I left messages with his boss .....

Mike Hughes, Director, NewsOne: 240-473-6838, ext 311. Never talked to him
but we played phone tag a lot with full messages. He was responsive to my
messages. He did tell me that he could not read Richard's note to him about
my calls. I told him about Richard not copying my zip code correctly and
suggested that he double check anything that Richard may be sending to the
supervisor who supervises the people who actually throw the paper on our
property or street. That seemed to do it.

Also Richard told me at the last call that he would tell the supervisor to
tell the delivery person to not just stop delivery, but to pick up the paper
that was delivered the day before. I am assuming that the driver finally
found the correct house, because that paper was picked up and no other paper
has been delivered.

I left very strong messages after the first few days. My next step was
going to be my delivering to Michael Phelps home (front yard) all the
Examiners he had thrown on my yard. I still have a pile if anyone wants
them.
