Examiner Problems  -  A Possible Solution

Posted by: "Samantha Nolan" [email protected]

Wed May 2, 2007 9:54 am (PST)

ANC3/4G will speak with the Director of Circulation for the Examiner at our May 14, 2007 meeting. The Director has stated that the paper will be contracting with a new company for deliveries. They are concerned with the many problems that have been brought to their attention, and the current delivery company is not addressing those concerns. The ANC meeting is open to the public. If you would like to address your concerns to the Director of Circulation in a polite civil manner, please attend our meeting at the Chevy Chase Community Center on the corner of McKinley Street and Connecticut Avenue. The meeting begins promptly at 7:30pm. We know that many people are frustrated with this situation. We do not want our guests to feel threatened when they appear before us, and we try to maintain a civil tone during the meetings, but we encourage your comments. Samantha Nolan, Commissioner ANC 3/4G03

Anybody have details about the speeding car incident over the weekend?
I understand from a neighbor that the driver was drunk and was
apprehended along Mass. Ave. after fleeing the scene.

Mayor Names New Director

of Office of Community Relations and Services

Former Neighborhood Services Visionary Selected

To Lead District's Main Constituent Service Office

(Washington, DC) Mayor Adrian M. Fenty today announced that Clark Ray
has been selected to lead the Office of Community Relations and Services
in the Executive Office of the Mayor.

"Clark Ray has extensive experience in neighborhood and constituent
services and will be an excellent addition to the administration," said
Mayor Fenty. "His commitment to community outreach is solid and will
prove very valuable to the residents, visitors and business owners of
the District of Columbia."

As director of the Mayor's Office of Community Relations and Services,
Ray will be responsible for leading the charge to improve the quality of
life for District residents by ensuring that all communities are clean,
safe, healthy, and economically vibrant. He also will play a key role in
ensuring that city government agencies provide coordinated and scheduled
delivery of high-quality basic services for every resident, visitor, and
business owner.

Clark Ray, Director, Mayor's Office of Community Relations and Services.

Results-oriented visionary Clark Ray brings more than 20 years of
community outreach, executive leadership, and education and training
experience to the District of Columbia government. Clark's prior work
in the former Office of Neighborhood Services will be a tremendous asset
to the Executive Office of Mayor Adrian M. Fenty.

In August 2004, Ray was named the director of external affairs of the DC
Sports and Entertainment Commission, a position he held until being
named the director of MOCRS. As director at the Commission, Ray oversaw,
coordinated and managed the location, design and construction of
recreational sports facilities in the District. While serving in this
capacity, he also was responsible for developing and monitoring project
budgets as well as implementing and maintaining a community outreach
plan to ensure that facility designs, development and operations took
into their consideration valuable community input.

>From 2000 to 2004, Clark served as Neighborhood Services Coordinator in
the Office of Neighborhood Services in the Executive Office of the
Mayor. Under the Neighborhood Service Initiative, he was responsible for
developing a core team of District Government agency representatives
while simultaneously establishing systems to monitor and maintain the
coordination of timely responses to service needs of District residents.
As a team leader and coach to Core Team members from participating
agencies, he identified persistent and chronic problems throughout the
city's eight wards and developed and organized short and long term work
plans to meet each need.

In 2000, after serving in the Clinton-Gore White House for six years,
(which included being detailed to several federal agencies), Ray served
as deputy campaign manager/chief of staff to Tipper Gore for GORE 2000.
In this position, he was a member of Vice President Al Gore's senior
campaign management team and monitored and approved expenditures
associated with Mrs. Gore's campaign-related activities and events.

Ray has a master's in education from Temple University and a Bachelor of
Science from the University of Arkansas.

Re:Examiner delivery continues....how to stop?
From: treanork <ktreanor@gih.org>

I have had the same experience with the Examiner...calling
circulation at least a dozen times to ask that they stop delivery
didn't work. Some days I even got two papers! I finally called the DC
Better Business Bureau and filed a complaint. I also called the
Examiner's DC editor and complained (202.903.2000). I spoke with the
editor's assistant who was actually quite helpful and concerned
(especially about the BBB complaint). Finally, it stopped coming! Hope
this helps.

Good News RE: Downspout Thefts

From: Solberg, Andrew (MPD) <Andrew.Solberg@dc.gov>

I am happy to report that we have made two arrests in regard to the
white car that we believe was involved in the theft of copper
downspouts in the Chevy Chase area. Around 1 pm, the auto theft unit
stopped a white Buick Regal, on South Dakota Avenue, NE, and evidence
was recovered that leads us to believe the two men, in addition to
being in a stolen car, were involved in the thefts.

From: Mary O'Lone <marytomindc@msn.com>

Are you looking for a way to stay cool & enjoy the summer? Regency
Estates Swim Club (RESC) in Potomac has memberships available. The
pool is a 20 minute drive from Tenleytown, just off Seven Locks Road.
The pool underwent a multi-million dollar renovation last year & the
plan is to install a new playground before the season start this
summer. RESC has a fenced baby pool with a whale that gently spurts
water. The main pool has a zero grade entry, a double slide that
lands in 2 feet of water, lap swimming lanes, as well as a diving well.

It has a swim & dive team, as well as lots of family activities --
holiday celebrations including potluck BBQs, ice cream socials, crab
feasts, water aerobics, kids crafts & BINGO nights, s'mores and stars
nights, and more. There is plenty of sun & plenty of shade and the
ability to reserve picnic tables and grills for pool parties. As a
bonus, you should know that the Asian tiger misquito hasn't made it
out to Potomac yet. For photos and more information, check out the
website at http://www.rescswimpool.org/ or contact Mary O'Lone at

Recommendations Sought for Jewelry Appraiser

Posted by: "ljleavy" [email protected]   ljleavy

Has anyone had any experience with getting jewelry appraised? I'm
looking for recommendations for a reasonable, reputable appraiser,
plus any insights you can share as to what sort of fees to expect;
whether it's more cost-effective to have items appraised as a group
instead of per-piece; etc. Please reply off-line; I'll consolidate
and post any recommendations I receive.
