Taking the recommendation of an earlier post to the listserve, we
engaged David Ochoa as a handyman. I am pleased to say that we were
very happy with his work. While he advertises himself as doing
carpentry, drywall, plaster, paint, tile and general handyman tasks --
which he can undoubtably do -- he is a craftsman at heart and did a
terrific job building recessed bookshelves and doing other custom
carpentry for us. And he fixed a sink on the way out. He works on an
hourly basis that adds up to good value. 202.409.6921, 703.451.1557.

Tenleytown's own Maru Montero Dance Company presents the 15th annual
National Cinco de Mayo Festival on Saturday, May 5, 2007 from Noon
to 6 p.m. beside the Washington Monument (outdoor Sylvan Theater) on
the National Mall.

The family-focused celebration will feature a live mix of music and
dance from mariachi to merengue to hip-hop, a diverse children's
pavilion, and food. The Festival is free and open to all. It will
be held rain or shine.

Performers at the Festival include the Reggeaton Mix Music Band,
QuinTango, Maru Montero Dance Company, Cristopolis and many others.
A special horse troupe will also perform at the Festival.

The Children's Pavilion will house several interactive exhibits by
the Smithsonian and Celebra la Ciencia, children's dance
performances and mini-classes, a fashion show, piñata games,
traditional Latino arts and crafts activities, a soccer clinic, and
guest appearances by Maya and Miguel (PBS television characters).

"Dance, music and family are very important parts of Latino
culture," said Maru Montero, founder of the dance company and the
Festival. "We will celebrate them all at this year in our 15th
annual celebration of Cinco de Mayo."

Please see www.marumontero.com for more information about the
Festival or to download print-ready photos of the event. The
Festival is sponsored by BB&T, the Freddie Mac Foundation, Target
and the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority.

Take Metrobus or Metrorail to the Festival via the Smithsonian Metro

Thank you and Please Vote May 1

Martin Levine Candidate for DC Board of Education - Wards 3 and 4
Special Election. May 1, 2007

I want to thank all my Ward 3 and 4 neighbors for the opportunity to
share with you over the past three months my views for improving our
city's public schools -- as part of my campaign to fill a vacancy on
the DC Board of Education in the May 1 special election.

I've described the background I would bring to the Board of Education
and my thoughts about how the board can help bring meaningful change
to DC's public education system – by creating a policy-making process
that combines policy expertise with citizens' views; by advocating
for parents and ensuring that their concerns are acted on promptly;
and by developing partnerships to bring mentors, tutors, and
curriculum enrichment to every Ward 3 and 4 school.

Now the privilege is yours, as voters – to make the choice as to who
will best serve our city's interests on the soon-to-be reconstituted
Board of Education. I ask for your support. And I ask that whoever
is your choice for School Board, please vote May 1.

Thank you.

I called Tom Desimone directly and got him. He took my address info
and agreed to stop delivery (for both our front door and the side
gate). We'll see what happens.
