Washington Revels, famous for their Christmas show at the Lisner every

The orchestra includes brass, organ, handbells, strings, recorders,

Tickets are on sale by emailing Sally Thornton (sally_may@verizon.net).

Assessment shocker

I've heard a lot about assessment talk and several people say that they could not get that for their house. Don't be too sure. I know that I would NOT sell my home for what it's assessed for. I hear neighbors say they could sell it for that price, but I've see a couple of homes that shocked me at what they sold it for.

Daytime Residential Street Sweeping Resumes March 26

Ticketing begins April 2. Motorists can receive a $30 fine for parking
in a street-sweeping zone.

(Washington, DC) Daylight saving time is coming and so is mechanical
street sweeping in the District's most heavily trafficked neighborhoods,
starting Monday, March 26, 2007. Alternate-side parking restrictions in
these areas also will return. Parking tickets, which carry a $30 fine,
will be issued, beginning April 2, to vehicles parked during street
sweeping hours in areas posted with "No Parking/Street Cleaning" signs.
Additionally, parked cars may be towed to allow the sweepers access to
the curbside. Generally, parking is prohibited for two hours while
sweeping is underway.

Weekly street cleaning routes can be found across the city in
high-density neighborhoods, especially areas with significant foot
traffic, such as Adams Morgan, Dupont Circle, Logan Circle and parts of
Capitol Hill.

Street sweeping reduces debris that otherwise would be carried by rain
and runoff into the city's storm drains, polluting the District's
rivers. The sweepers remove litter from the street by brushing it onto a
conveyor system, which transports the material into a debris hopper.
The sweeper also distributes a fine spray of water to help control dust.
During winter, sweeping occurs only when the weather is warm enough that
the water will not freeze on the street.

Residents and businesses also play a role in maintaining street
cleanliness. District law requires property owners to sweep or keep the
area in front of their homes or businesses clean 18 inches from the curb
line into the street.

A Musical Treasure in the 'Hood

Not enough people know about this, but there is a musical
treasure in our neighborhood.
It's the Fessenden Ensemble, a group of professional classical
musicians who have played superbly for five years in St. Columba's
Episcopal Church on Albemarle Street, one block west of the
Tenleytown-AU metro station.
Many of the Fessenden musicians are members of the National
Symphony Orchestra. Others play in the "President's Own" U.S. Marine
Band.
The Washington Post has called Fessenden "one of the finest
chamber music groups in the Washington area."
Three evening concerts remain in the current season -- on April
24, May 22 and June 19, all Tuesdays beginning at 8pm. Each concert
is followed by a wine-fruit-cheese reception.
And this is one of the city's best musical bargains, too.
Fessenden, a non-profit organization, charges only $25 per person for
individual concerts.
To spur interest, I give free passes for any of the remaining
concerts to the first dozen neighbors who email their interest to me at
aajacks@starpower.net.
There 's also an opportunity to hear one of Fessenden's sublime
performances without charge this month. There will be a free all-Mozart
program at 4pm Sunday, March 18th, in the Great Hall of St. Paul's Rock
Creek Parish at Rock Creek Church Road and Webster Street.
For more information, check out www.fessendenensemble.org.
