Captain
Mc7_of_9
Captain
mc7_of_9 strode onto the bridge of the USS Vesuvius he looked around and smiled
inwardly to himself. From what he could gather so far, he had a good crew (even
if a little understaffed), and a good ship. He had gone over her plans many
times, and even though most of the ships he had previously served on had been
the same class, there were always those subtle changes the designers made with
each new ship, and he wanted to find every last one of them.
He walked over to his Command chair in the center of the Bridge and sat down.
Not a momant passed since he sat down and tarted reveiwing Department Reports
when his COO, Lt Cmdr Trent announced, "Sir, we have an incoming Priority
One transmission for you." "OK Commander, I'll take it in my ready
room." He rose from his command chair, and stalked over to his new ready
room. As he entered he thought to himself that he had a lot of work to do before
he could start calling this place home.
"Computer, begin Priority One communication, authourisation mc7_of_9, Alpha
- 5 -Tango Bravo 2, the new Captain insstructed the computer."
As he sat down at his desk the image of Admiral Mathias appeared on his screen.
"Congratulations on your new promotion Captain", was the first thing
the admiral said to him. "Thank you Admiral, but I'm guessing you didn't
send a Priority One message to me just to offer your congratulations to
me." "Astute as ever I see captain, I can see why you moved through
the ranks so quickly. Ok Captain, the Vesuvius is ordered to report to the
Corath Sector immedietely, and make your best possible speed Captain. I have
uploaded further instructions to you main computer core, but you will only be
able to access them when you are within 3 lightyers of the Corath Sector",
the admiral completed. "Ok Admiral, your orders are received and
understood." His screen went dark.
The new Captain tapped his comm badge, "Mc7_of_9 to Guthrdav45-A, set
course for the Corath Sector, Maximum warp". "Aye sir," came the
reply from his XO. Tha Captain leaned back in his chair and wondered what this
was all about, and also how his future would turn out on the Vesuvius, and had
the feeling that things were going to go well.
First Officer Guthrdav45-A
Guthrdav45-A was sitting in the first
officers chair. He had come a long way since being the chief engineer to being.
The Captain came on board the bridge and everyone looked at him and greeted him.
The Captain sat down in his chair, and Guthrdav45-A didnt say anything before he
got the chance to as Lt Commander Trent tol him of the messege. When the captain
left, Guthrdav45-A stood up and took the big chair. This was the first time he
had experinced it and it felt good to him. Guthrdav45-A and Trent were just
talking about nothing really, and after a while the captain said over the comm
"Mc7_of_9 to Guthrdav45-A, set a course for the Corath Sector" he
ordered. The Captains first order GUthrdav45-A thought to himself. "aye
Sir" was the reply. As the Vesuvius was understaffed at the moment, he got
up and took the helm and layed in the course himself, at warp 7. He stayed at
the station and looked around the bridge, to see Trent at Ops and a creweman at
Tatical.
After a while the Captain came back onto the bridge. "So, you know whats it
about?" Guthrdav45-A asked his captain. "Not much. We will have to
wait till we get close enough to the Sector." Came the reply.
And with that, Guthrdav45-A turned around and waited further intrsctions.
Lt Commander Trent
Trent was happy. It had been a long
time since the Vesuvius had done anything and it felt good to be moving again.
The bridge was half empty with only two crewmen and the XO. Some day soon he
would have to go meet the new crew members of the Vesuvius. Finaly the proximity
alert Trent was waiting for came on. "Bridge to Captain Mc7_of_9."
Trent said over the intercom "We are aproaching the Corath sector."
Captain Mc7_of_9
"Ok Lt Commander, come to a full
stop". The Captain said over the comm. "Ok", he thought to
himself and he sat down at his desk. "Computer, access mission files
uploaded by Admiral Mathias". "Accessing", came the computers
cold crsip voice. A few seconds later mc7_of_9 input his secuirty code, and the
files were on his screen. He read over the files, and thought about how they
were going to deal with a problem like the one he had been set by HQ.
The Captain walked out onto the Bridge of his new Command and started giving out
orders. None of the crew knew why they were being given the orders, but they all
knew not to question their Captain without good cause.
Five minutes after the Captain had
returned to the bridge from his ready room his XO asked to see him in private.
"Captain, we picked up some strange gravmetric readings a few minutes ago,
and the only thing that can generate those kind of reading, other than natural
phenomimnon, is, a cloaked ship", interupted the Captain.
"Your almost correct Commander. We're not detecting a cloaked ship, we're
dectecting a cloaked starbase."
First Officer Guthrdav45-A
The XO gaspped. "A cloaked
starbase??? do we know what speices it is?" The XO asked. "Not at the
present moment we dont" the captain replyed. "Act of war do you think?
this far in the federation space?" Guthrdav45-A keeped asking. "I do
not know. This is the whole reason we are here. to found out who or what it is
and find out what they are doing."
Captain Mc7_of_9
"Starfleet Intelligance has a few
ideas of what this could be, but they don't know for sure, hence why we are
here. Our primary mission is to find out if the owners of the Starbase are
hostile, and to take action accordingly. Even with all the Vesusvius new
upgrades, we couldn't take down a starbase. I just hope that they aren't looking
for a fight."
"OK, Commander, sound General Quarters, then go to Red Alert. I want every
senor on this ship trained on that starbase, and I want a way to penetrate that
cloak. Use whatever personel you need Commander."
The First Oficer exited the Captain's Ready room, and a few seconds later the CO
heard the computer announce General Quarters, followed by the shrill Red Alert
klaxon.
First Officer Guthrdav45-A
The Lt Commander got the General quarters and red
alert going. He went over to Trent, who got up from the command chair. "So,
whats it about?" Trent asked. The First officer took Trent aside and told
him "There is a cloaked starbase out there. We need to find a way to
uncloak them or something like that. Could i get you to do that?"
Guthrdav45-A Asked. "Sure can. i will be right onto it." Trent
replied. Guthrdav45-A sat in the chair and thought what could it be all
about.....
Captain Mc7_of_9
"Mc7_of_9 to Guthrdav, any word
on a soloution to uncloaking that starbase?" the CO asked, and his First
Officer replied, "Not as yet Sir, but we're working on it." The
Captain leaned back in his chair, and thought to himself what an interesting
maiden voyage for his new command this was turning out to be. His thoughts were
interupted by the ships comm systems, which carried his XO's voice to his Ready
Room, saying, "Captain to the Bridge."
Mc7_of_9 walked from his ready room onto the bridge, and looked at Guthrdav, who
just nodded towards the screen. He turned to look at the screen, and saw an
uncloaked Starbase, of completely unknown design.
He turned towards the center of the bridge and walked to his command chair.
"Get me all the data you can on that Trent," he said, and he could
hear his COO's fingers tapping away at his console.
Lt Commander Trent
"I don't know what happened
captian," Trent said with surprise. "I was doing a sensor focas scan
on it and it just, decloaked." Suddenly his console started to beep. Trent
checked it, "There scanning us sir."
*NOTE
From this point forward, first officer
Guthrdav45-A retired from Starfleet seeking personal reasons, and was replaced
by Commander Fox, from the USS Thundercloud.
Captain Mc7_of_9
"Ok Trent. What kind of scan, is
it passive, or what? Also, what's the staus of their defensive & offensive
systems?" the Captain bellowed accross the bridge. "Scan seems to be
passive, not a deep layer scan, Sir. As for their systems, I can't tell you Sir,
as our sensors cannot penetrate the bases' hull." What the hell.. said the
ships new First Officer under his breath. "Something to share with us Cmdr
Fox?" the captain asked. "Sorry Sir, but this ship has the newest
sensros in the fleet, and we still can't penetrate their hull." "I
know, it worries me as well," replied the captain. "Ok Trent,
broadcast this on all frequnicies, all langauages, This is captain mc7_of_9 of
the Federation vessel USS Vesuvius. We request that you return our transmission,
so we can establish a means of communication." "Captain, we're getting
a responce," Trent called over the Bridge. The image of what looked like a
middle aged human male appeared on screen. "Captain, I know who you are,
and I must ask you to leave the area at once."
First Officer Fox
With that the main screen showed the image of the
decloaked starbase again. "Captain" Fox said "We can't just leave
this area, we have to investigate." "I agree with you commander."
the captain replied. "Also he knew who we are. I'd like to know how he
knows"
Captain Mc7_of_9
"OK Trent, get them back on the
comms." Ok people, they know who we are, and we don't know who they are,
that leave sus with a distinct disavantage. I want the playing feild
levaled," the CO said. There was aflurry of movement on the ships Bridge as
the Captin finished giving his orders, and every station on the bridge was now
manned.
"Captain, I'm getting some very faint readings eminating from the
Starbase," the COO said. "What kind of readings Trent?" the
Captain replied. "Chronometric readings, Sir."
"Not Temperal Investigations again!" was all the Captain said.
Ensign Shane T'Pole
The crew on the bridge were working
overtime. They were all trying to find out as much as they could about the
starbase. Thats when Shane walked onto the bridge. In a true Vulcan manner (half
vulcan half human) he spoke to the captain. "Whats seems to be the
matter?" he asked. "Who are you?" The Captain replyed back,
rather hard as it wasnt the best time for the captain to talk to anyone. "I
am counsellor Shane T'Pole. I came aboard at Starbase 47 and have been a little
busy to be of any assitants till now." Shane said in a vulcan voice.
"but be assure, just because i am half vulcan, doesnt mean i will stay
vulcan all the time" he said in a more human voice. "So what do you
want me to do Captain?" Shane said, more vulcan like as he awaited the
captains reply.
Captain Mc7_of_9
The Captain looked at the new ship's
Counsellor. "Commander Fox, we really have to get the communications on
this ship a little better!" he said to his XO, in a joking mannor, in an
attempt to try and lighten the atmosphere on the Bridge. "Ok Counsellor,
how would you say the crew are handling the apperance of this Starbase?"
the Captain asked his new Counsellor.
Ensign Shane T'Pole
"I'm Vulcan/Human, not
betazoid" Shane replied. "Vulcan humor?" muffled the XO. Shane
just looked. "But what i see from my little time at starfleet is that the
crew experinces show that this is a normal reaction to the apperance. i belive
the more experinaced crew will get more of a hold of the situation then the
lesser experianced crew." Shane eventually said. "Good to hear."
Replied the captain. "Anything else you need? I REALLY want to sit down. Is
that my chair?" Shane asked pointing at the captains chair. "You
wish..." was the reply you got.
First Officer Fox
With that shane sat down in the chair
left to the one he had pointed at. In the mean time the starbase had continued
its Temperal Investigation. "Commander Trent, are you still getting those
Chronometric readings?" the XO asked. "No, Sir" Trent replied
"The starbase isn't showing any different reading then before."
Captain Mc7_of_9
"I still don't like it," the
CO said. "Ok, lets get our thinking caps on people. There has to be a way
to find out more about this. We can't penetrate their hull, and I don't think
there's anything we could do to change that, so we have to find other means of
geting information. Any luck with the geting them back on Comms yet?"
Ensign Shane T'Pole
"Not on comms sir" was the
reply from Trent. "Blast." said the captain. "Sir, relax. there
is no need to get angry. It only makes it worst." Shane said in a vulcan
voice. "They dont want to be talked to. Our sensors can not get past their
hull. I suggest a plan. The logical course of action is to keep doing what we
are doing." Shane started "Then, we keep doing this" Fox said.
"Not all ways. My human half says..." Shane started "Do we have
to here these storys?" Fox asked. "No, but thats vulcan for you. I am
trying to say is we have to go up to them and knock on their door." Shane
fillanly finsihed. "Knock on there door?" The Captain asked. "We
get a shuttle, fly up to them, and knock. They should answer." Shane said.
"And what do we knock with?" Fox chipped in. "Our hands."
Shane said. "How?" Trent also added. "Well, we move our arm to an
upright position and flex teh wrist a little...." Shane started, and added
a grin to the captains face. "Not how we knock with our hands, how do we go
through with it?" Fox replyed to that remark. "Ok, heres the deal. We
get in a shuttle craft....want me to explain that too?" Shane said.
"NO!" the other officers replied quickly. "Ok. we get in a
shuttle, we fly the shuttle up to the door of the starbase, beam next to the
door in our space suites then knock." Shane ended. "Thats not very
logical" the captain said. "you could say i am a illogical Vulcan or a
logical human. your call." Shane said as he not only awaited the reply to
that, also a reply to weather or not the shuttle idea was good.
Captain Mc7_of_9
"I think I'll wait and see how
you settle in before desising on the vulcan/huamn thing," the Captain said,
with a small grin. "Right, now about knocking on the door. It wouldn't be
my forst choice of action, but at the moment those choices are severly limited.
Ok people, you have one hour to come up with suggestions. I want more than one
option. But Counsellor, as it was your idea, I hope you reliease that you will
be joining the away team when we put your plan into action," and as the
captain finished saying that, the new Counsellor just looked at the CO, as he
sure wasn't expecting that.
Captains Log Stardate 871220
The ship is currently in the Corath
Sector under orders from Starfleet Command to investigate some very strange
readings they had. We have since discovered that the cause of these readings was
a Cloaked Starbase. At first my main concern was that a Foreign Power had
developed a cloaking device big enough to Cloak a Starbase, but when my COO
picked up some chronometric readings, my concerns changed. We have had one breif
communication with the Starbase, which appears to be crewed, at least partly, by
Humans. In this communication they asked us to leave the area. We are currently
trying to re-establish comms with the Starbase, and are also looking into
'alternitive' ways of communication.
End Log.
Ensign Shane T'Pole
Shane was sitting down. Sometimes he
hated his human half. But he wasnt going to forget it like alot of half whatever
being does. the crew was busy trying to get the base to talk to them. "They
dont want to talk." Shane finally said. "We need to get their
attetion." he aslo added. "HOW?" Barked the captain. He wasnt in
a good mood right now. "Why not fire a torpedo pass the base? Or maybe
leave and come back and see what happens." Shane had finished. "I
dunno...." the captain started.
First Officer Fox
Fox interrupted the captain.
"Captain" he said "i think Shane's last idea 'pretend we're
leaving' is a good one. Firing a torpedo has no use because maybe they'll return
fire. And looking at the technology we've seen so far their weapons system must
be more advanced too." Again the captain started... "I dunno...."
Captain Mc7_of_9
"OK people, if you can give me a
way of tricking their sensors into believeing that we've left the area, then we
would have a solution, but at the moment you can't, can you?" the Captain
said, as he looked around the Bridge. No one answered. "I thought not. Ok,
Cmdr Fox, assemble two away teams, one containing the good Counsellor, and both
of them containing secuirty officers." Th ships First Officer looked at the
Captain as he finished speaking. "Yes Sir," the Commander said.
"Trent, any news on getting Comms back up with them yet?" the CO asked
his COO. "Not yet sir," came the reply. The Captain sat in his Command
cahir in the center of the Bridge as the crew scurried about, trying to find a
solution to this mystery Starbase out of time.
Ensign Shane T'Pole
"Away missions? damn me and my
suggestions." Shane muttered to himself. "your fault shane, your
fault." is all the XO said.
Captain Mc7_of_9
The away team assesembled outside the
shuttlecraft Orkney as it's leader, Commander Fox approached. "Ok people,
here's the plan. When we get up to the hull, we locate the nearest airlock. Once
we have done that, we'll see if we can access it. If it is Starfleet technology
it shouldn't be that hard to decipher, even if it is from the future. Any
questions?" The only noise was from the technictians working to prepare the
shuttle for launch. "Ok people, lets get this show on the road" the XO
said. The team filled into the shuttlecraft and prepared for launch. the pilot
recieved clearence from the Vesuvius' Bridge to launch, and the sleek ship
lifted off the decking and glided out into the vastness of space.
Ensign Shane T'Pole
"Everything ok Counsellor?"
Fox asked. "the other officers. They seem so inexperiance, as am i. i dont
believe we even have a proper sercuirty officer yet do we?" shane asked.
Fox didnt answer that. "Well, i hope i can be of assitants somewhere."
Shane finished. "you will. Everyone will." Fox reassured him.
First Officer Fox
The shuttle approached the starbase.
"Look" Fox said "There's an airlock, maneuver the shuttle to
it."
"Affirmative, Sir" The pilot replied.
A few moments later the shuttle was very close to the huge door of the airlock.
"Okay" Fox said "I need a volunteer" and looked at all the
members of the team.
Enisgn Shane T'Pole
"I will go." shane said.
"it was my idea to do this, so i might as well get on with it." he
added. "you sure?" FOx asked. "Yes i am sure. Unless, you dont
want me to go?" shane said and looked at his XO.
First Officer Fox
Fox was looking at Shane thinking if
he should let him go or not... Finally he said "Okay... Get into your
spacesuit and let's
proceed with our plan." With that Shane left to put on his suit.
Captain Mc7_of_9
The Captain sat in his command chair
in he center of the Bridge. It's too quiet he thought to himself. Since the
ships new Counsellor came onboard, the Bridge hadn't known a quiet moment. Now
it was erily silent. Even the beeps of consoles seemed subdued. "mc7_of_9
to Away team," the Captain said, after touching the Comms section on his
Command panel, "Go ahead Sir," came his XO's reply. "How are
things going so far Fox?" the Captain asked. "Shane is about to try
and access the airlock Sir." the XO informed the Captain. "Ok, keep us
upto date," the CO said, and then hit the button to terminate the Comm
chanel. the Captain rose from his chair, saying, "I'll be in my ready room,
let me know as soon as we get any more information." "Aye Sir,"
came the responce from a face he couldn't put a name to. The Captain walked from
the Bridge to his Ready Room.
Ensign Shane T'Pole
Shane had just finished greaing up in
his space suit. "You ready?" Fox asked him. "Yes. Ready as i will
ever be." Came the reply from Shane. "Well, here goes." SHane
said.
Minutes later, shane was in space moving slowly towards the starbase airlock. He
touched down on the starbase, but than the shields of the starbase came online.
Back in the shuttle
"WHAT HAPPEN?" Fox asked.
"I don't know sir. as soon as he hit the starbase, the shields came online.
They seem to be powering weapons." said a officer.
"Back off. 3/4 impuse." Fox ordered.
"Aye SIr."
The shuttle backed off. The starbase did not fire.
Meanwhile, Shane was stuck. He didn't know what to do. so he composed himself.
Then, the shuttle backoffed. He knew he was in trouble now. He position himself,
and crawled into the airlock.
"Ensign Shane T'Pole to the Vesuivus. Please respond" Shane said many
times. His signal did not go out. Right he thought to himself, I must get inside
and see what i can do.
Shane moved quickly. he found his way to what looked like someone quarters. He
looked in. There he saw some wierd kind of Aliens and a officer. He couldn't
quite tell what military. He countine moving, till he found the cargo bay area.
Thats where he stepped out. He took off the space suit and dumped it behind a
crate. He heard footsteps, so he hide. He heard them say some things.
Officer 1 "So, what do you want me to do with all this equipment?"
Senior Officer "We set it up. We must be ready in time otherwise it will be
a waste.
Officer 1 "Yes Sir. i will get some officers onto it."
Senior Officer "Good. I dont want anyone to know what we are doing here.
And also, get rid of the Vesuvius. We dont need them hanging about."
Officer 1 "I sir. i will get onto that."
With that, the officer left, but another officer came. he looked like a secruity
officer.
Security officer "Sir, we have had a breach. Someone has entered. we have
raised the shields and i have security personall all over the base reasy to
capture him at all costs."
Senior officer. "Must be from the ship. All right, off you go. And we you
do capture him, send him to me. i will deal with it." came the reply. with
that, both officers left.
Shane had to get a messege out but how?
First Officer Fox
"Commander" an officer
onboard the shuttle said "We're getting a message from the Vesuvius."
"Okay, put it on the screen" Fox replied.
The face of the captain appeared. "Commander, we've lost all contact with
counselor Shane."
"That could be possible, sir" Fox replied "He's inside the
starbase. We don't know what happend after he went inside."
Captain Mc7_of_9
On the Bridge of the Vesuvius
everything seemed to come alive at once. Consoles beeped and wall displays
flashed, and the Senior Officer on deck called the Captain to retrun from his
ready room. "Ok people, we need options on how to get in contact with the
Counsellor, he could be our best hope for finding out what is going on hereand
how to rectify it," the Captain said, even though it didn't need to be
said. "Get me that Starbase on the Comms. I don't care how you do it, just
get it done." The Captain said, as he sat on his Command Chair.
"Captain, we're geting a responce from the bas", came the Comms
officers voice. "We'll, put it on screen then," came the Captains
harsh reply. The face of a Human male appeared on the main veiw screen.
"This is Captain mc7_of_9 of the United Federation Of Planets. You are in
Federation Space without any proper authorisation, ignore our attempts and
communication and then invite the possibility of an armed conflict by activating
your Offensive systems. I must ask you to explain your actions, and I'm afraid
that I will not be able to take no for an answer."
Ensign Shane T'Pole
"Damn it" Thought Shane.
There was no way out. He was basically stuck. People came in and out of the
cargo bay every 10 minutes. "There has to be a way." Shane thought, so
he climbed back into the air shaft. "I have to find the sickbay" He
thought. he had learnt that if he reliased some chemicals into the airflow that
knocked the person uncounsers. But what chemicals? he had to seal off an area so
he didnt fall asleep either. This was going to be difficult. He liked what
looked like to be a meeting room. There he saw some command people. To his
surprise, there was a Romulan, a Klingon and a Human. What a wierd bunch. he
overheard what they said. "We have to dispose of the Vesuvius. Reports
indicate a member all ready on this starbase. But, they have been found to be
false." the human started. "Lets attack them!" The klingon
demanded. "Yes. we should. but we have to so it looks like they attacked us
first." the Romulan replied. "We have just the method. we can trigger
there weapons to fire and we just reply back." The Human said. "We
will use it now shall we?" He asked. "yes we should!" The klingon
said. "i dont see why not?" the Romulan replied. "ok. Its
settled." he said as he tapped his commbadge. "Tatical, this is the
Admiral. Dispose of the Vesuvius, plan Alpha omega 2." "Aye sir"
Came the reply.
Moments later on the bridge
"Sir, our ship is powering up weapons!" Tatical said. "WHAT? Stop
it!" The captain cried. "I can't!" taical replied. Just then, the
Vesuvius shot 5 photon torpedoes at the starbase. "What happen?" The
captain cried invainly. "You have fired upon us! This is a declartion of
War! Leave idmentaily or be destoryed!" Said the human on the view screen
before cutting transmission.
Back in the airlock...Shane felt the torepesdoes hitting the starbase. "You
have fired upon us! This is a declartion of war! leave idmentaily or be
detoryed!" The admiral said before cutting off tansmission.
"HAHAHAHA!" the klingon and Romulan both laughed out loud. "I
pity them." the romulan chuckled.
Shane could only wonder what would happen to the vesuvius as he heard a couple
of phaser fire come from the starbase.....
Captain Mc7_of_9
"Captain to Away team, get the
hell back here," the Captain said, his voice booming around the Bridge.
"Sir, Ensign T'Pole is on the Starbse", said the Commander from
onboard the shuttle. The Captain sat in his Command chair and looked at the
veiwscreen, and the hellish image it showed. "You have your orders
Commander," the CO said, although his voice was no where near as powerfull
as it had been a few seconds earlier. "Helm, as soon as the shuttle is
docked, enagage at maximum warp, on a heading for Starbase 16." It would
only take 6 hours to arrive at the Starbase, but a lot could happen in 6 hours,
as mc7_of_9 was about to discover.
First Officer Fox
Fox looked at the shuttle pilot.
"You heard the captain, set course to vesuvius, full impulse." A few
moments later the shuttle called the vesuvius.
"Shuttle to Vesuvius, request permession to dock."
"Granted" came the reply "Shuttle bay 2, is clear."
With that the pilot maneuvered the shuttle to bay 2.
"Shuttle bay to bridge, the shuttle is docked."
"okay Helm, engage at max warp."
Ensign Shane T'Pole
Shane had this bad thought. He didnt know wheather or
not if the Vesuvius was still there or not. the firing had stopped. It was a bit
short, but could this be a powerful race? He ran thoughts in his head. No way
would a Romulan work with humans. Maybe a Klingon. He just couldnt think
straight. He had to do something and quick. He decieded to keep moving. his only
hope of getting a messege out would be through some sercert way thing. He found
another exit. he didnt quite know where it went, so he jumpped out anyway only
to find himself in the middle of what looked like the control room, or bridge as
called on a ship. everyone looked at shane, and all shane said was some swear
word, and started running. He saw flashers of light go pass him. He got his
phaser out and set it on full stun. He pointed it backwards, while running,
without looking, and just shot. He doesnt know much about what happen next
because he ran straight into the Klingon, Human and Romulan. "Who are you?
Ahh u must be from the Vesuvius. Come this way" The Human said as sercuirty
teams hurried around Shane. "Bite me!" Came the reply from shane, and
he started to run, only yo be stunned from behind. "Humans." the
Klingon said. "Actually, he is Vulcan. i have never seen a Vulcan act in
such a manner. Klingons do, but not Vulcans." The Romulan said. "Yes.
Thats the Klingons weak point. We have to hit them there." The Klingon
spock, more of an enemy than a klingon. Shane driffted off before being awaken
in the medical lounge of the Starbase....
Ensign Shane T'Pole
Shane awoke to on the biobed only to
see the faces of the 3 leaders of the base.
"Hello" Said the human. "I am Admiral Matthew Brock of the
Federation, this is Stark of Romulus, he is on the sente, and Bolf of Klingon's
high council. I hope you like our humble adores here, as you will make an
excellent addition to our starbase." he finished.
"What do you want?" Blasted Shane.
"shall we begin now?" Stark asked
"Certainly" Bolf also added.
"This wont hurt a bit." Matthew said.
The next thing Shane knew was he was in a deep vulcan meditation. he dont know
how he did, but he was in there. He could hear, feel and see what they were
trying to do to him. They were trying to brainwash him. "Fight it son,
Fight it." was all he could here. It was his Vulcan mother, T'Pole, who
died when he was born. He hadn't seen her, but had heared her voice in recording
his father gave him. "Dont let them do it" She keep saying "Stay
strong" For some reason, he slowly lost the sound of his mother's voice.
10 minutes he was a wake again.
"Lt Commander Shane T'Pole. How do you feel?" The Admiral asked him.
"I...i can not remeber much." Shane said. "What happen?"
"What was the last thing you remeber?" Stark asked. "I was
attacked by Romulans. They were not part of Romulus. They wanted to see Romulan
empire destoryed since it joined the Federation" Shane answered.
"Toxic nerve gas. A method that makes you forgot things. you will only
remeber things before u were infected. Shane, that was 15 years ago. The year is
now 2496." Bolf said. "2496? no. it was 2387 if i..." Shane
started, than corrected it "2481 i mean" he said. For some reason he
knew this wasnt real and heard his mother voice again "Fight it. Do not
give in. Fight it" was what she keep saying, but what was he fighting?.....
Ensign Shane T'Pole
"2496? Thats a long time since i
was in that battle" Shane thought to himself. "Here is your work
station" Matthew said. "I hope you can remember how to use tatical.
Your memory will slowly come back if you are around your surrondings.
Enjoy!"
"This is not real. Fight it. U are not here." Is all that Shane could
hear in his head. "2388....2388.....2388." Was his mother voice keeped
saying in his head. "2388? The year is 2388?" Shane said aloud.
"2496" said another voice in his head. It was his own. "ITs 2388.
The year is 2388." He said aloud again. He ran to where his quarters were
and entered. "This isnt a starbase quarters. this is a ships quarters"
He thought to himself. "Computer, can you tell me what quarters thie
replicate?" Shane ask. the Computer replyied "This is a standard
quarter on the starbase Hewlett." The computer replied.
"Vesuvius" Said his mother again "Danger. Vesuvius." She
said again. "Vesuvius? What danger? The vesuvius. Is it a ship? Its a ship
isnt it?" Shane said aloud hoping for a answer. "Vesuivus" his
mother said again. "WHAT IS IT?" Shane cried out. He couldnt control
his emotions any more. Something was wrong. What was it? Shane was about to find
out.....
Ensign Sturek
Not only Shane was fighting for his
self-preservation, also on the Vesuvius everyone was getting increasingly
worried about Shane. So far, they hadn’t found a solution on how to get
T’Pole out of the starbase. They knew a great deal about the starbase’s
shields now, but there was no way on how to utilise that knowledge. First of
all, they couldn’t get near the starbase, so they couldn’t scan it let alone
beam Shane out. They would be destroyed doing so. And to beam Shane out was also
impossible, they did not know her location and, most important of all,
transporting at warp can only be done if the two vessels are travelling at the
same speed. So far, they officers on the Vesuvius were still to come with a
solution for this problem. And then there was this thing with the chroniton
particles…
Sturek had spend quite some time figuring out that part of the story for there
was nothing more for him to do on the shields. He had spend the last few hours
searching for a precedent regarding the chronitons. And then, after hours of
searching he had finally found something that came near to it…
On the bridge, mc7_of_9 was surprised to see Sturek strolling on to the bridge.
“What are you doing here? Didn’t your duty shift end already?” The captain
asked Sturek in a surprised fashion. “That isn’t very… eh… logical,
isn’t it?”
“Perhaps not in your opinion sir, but the reason I’ve come here is because I
found something of relevance regarding the chroniton particles surrounding that
starbase.”
“That makes your presence more logical. Go on.”
“The last few hours I have tried to find a precedent to this matter. I was
partially successful, I wasn’t able to find a precedent on the starbase, but I
did find something concerning the chroniton particles.”
“And that is?” Sturek had now gotten mc7_of_9’s full attention. Mc7_of_9
had probably been worrying more than anyone else and was eager to find out
anything that could help Shane.
“In the year 2151, on the starship Enterprise’s first voyage, captain Archer
and his crew were send to bring a Klingon back to Qo’Nos. This Klingon, Klung,
was a spying against a mysterious people called the Suliban. The information he
had gathered was of great importance, as it held the key for winning the
Temporal Cold War in which the Klingon Empire and the Suliban were involved.
What this means is still very unclear, but on this mission, the Enterprise
encountered a starbase which showed almost the same chroniton levels as this
one. It appeared that the Suliban’s starbase had some kind of a temporal
stasis room. In that room, multiple time frames could exist simultaneously.”
“That is very intriguing,” mc7_of_9’s attention was now greater than ever.
“And you think, that inside that starbase, there is also such a temporal
stasis room?”
“Given the sensor readings we have, and the sensor logs of the original
Enterprise, that would be a logical conclusion.”
Mc7_of_9 sighed deeply. Things were already complicated enough, and now this?
What was going now here?
“Well, this starbase isn’t very Suliban to me, we saw humans there, so this
has nothing to do with the Suliban. But still, Shane is already on his now, or
at least for now. This could be a great deal trouble for him. It makes his
escape even more difficult!”
“Indeed sir,” Sturek said, “It seems mr T’Pole is in great troubles. We
can’t reach him, and if he’s trapped inside the, what seems to be, temporal
stasis room, it will be very difficult to reach him.”
“I see. Alright, carry on. You’d better get some rest before your next duty
shift starts.”
“Yes sir.”
Sturek let the bridge, leaving behind him possibly the greatest mystery of his
still upcoming carreer.
Captain Mc7_of_9
The captain paced the bridge, as he
tened to do when he was running things over in his mind. Sturek had presented a
lot of new, and what seemed like, very valuable information a few hours before,
and now the Captain was going over it in his head, trying to fathom it all.
"Mc7_of_9 to all senior staff, assemble in the Observation Lounge for a
full staff meeting at 0800 hours." the captain said to his communicator,
knwoing that the message had been delievered to all the Senior members of the
ships's crew. "mc7_of_9 to Sturek, report to my ready room at 0730 hours. I
need to speak with you before the Senior staff meeting." the Captain said,
and the reply of "Aye Sir," came through from his CScO.
Ensign Sturek
Before Sturek had been ordered to the
captain’s readyroom, he had started to summarize all his findings and that of
others so that he could get a clearer picture of what was going on, and possibly
find something they had previously overlooked. As he was working on this, the
captain called him on his commbadge: "mc7_of_9 to Sturek, report to my
ready room at 0730 hours. I need to speak with you before the Senior staff
meeting." the Captain said, and the reply of "Aye Sir," came
through from his CScO.
Subsequently, Sturek left the summary for what it was and went to the bridge. He
was wondering why the captain wanted to see him, but failed to understand.
Once the doors of the turbolift opened, Sturek walked straight to the captains
ready room, only to find mc7_of_9 awaiting him.
“Sir,” Sturek started, “You wished to see me?”
“Indeed so,” the captain replied, “Take a seat.”
Sturek complied and sat down, awaiting the captain’s words.
Captain Mc7_of_9
"Ok Ensign, I won't beat about
the bush. As you probably know, I don't come from the Science background, so I
need you to explain your theories of how to save Shane to me." the Captain
said, looking over his sleek desk at his CScO. "I need to go into the
breifing in 30 minutes and the gathered officers need to know that I am in
command of the situation, and that we can get our man, hell, part of our family,
back," he continued. His CScO ooked over the desk, not quite sure what to
say. This being his first assigenment, he didn't have a lot of experiance with
Senior Officers, apart from those at the Academy, so even though he held his
Vulcan facade perfectly, he inwardly didn't know what to say. "Ok Ensign,
give me the most indepth report you can in 23 minutes," mc7_of_9 said, and
on request, Sturek began.
Ensign Sturek
As the captain requested, Sturek
started talking.
“Sir, first of all, I’m not quite sure IF we can save Shane. I’ll give you
the reasons why. When we encountered the starbase for the first time, it was
very much clear that its technology was considerably more advanced than ours.
Our weapons were rendered useless against them and they could defeat us with
ease. As you well know, they had almost made us fire our weapons against our
will. That eliminates the possibility to attack the base and force it to
surrender or lower its shields. We cannot beam Shane out in the conventional
way.
Then, later as we started to believe that their technology was partially based
on ours, we launched to probes while passing the base at high warp. We learned a
few things from that. Most important of all, I managed to find out the rotation
pattern and the frequencies of the shields, but only for a small part as the
starbase uses a combination of multiple rotation patterns. But as said earlier,
we may render their shields useless with this knowledge, but not their weapons.
Second of all, we scanned large concentrations of chroniton particles in and
around this starbase. That, I’ve not been able to clear out, but I have a
theory on that. When I was looking for precedents, I found out that the
Enterprise of 2151 encountered similar concentrations of chronitons. This makes
me assume that the starbase has a temporal stasis chamber of the same kind the
Enterprise encountered. As I explained earlier, the chamber allows the existence
of multiple timeframes in one room. That is the most logical conclusion
concerning the chroniton particles.
There is a small possibility that mr T’Pole is held in their, though I fail to
see the logic why. It has not been confirmed yet, but it also hasn’t been
denied. The probes we launched didn’t detect mr T’Pole, and since chronitons
scatter scanners, it is possible that mr T’Pole is held in that chamber to
prevent us from finding him. All this makes it utterly difficult to him out of
there,” Sturek explained.
Captain mc7_of_9 rose from his chair: “Are you sure we can’t get Shane out
of there?”
“Not one hundred percent, sir. We may not be able to beam mr T’Pole out the
conventional way, but we may be able to beam him out at high-warp. The starbase
was not able to stop us from launching probes when we passed them that way. So
we may do it again to beam Shane out. If we can find him, assuming he’s not in
the temporal stasis chamber.”
”But, doesn’t cause beaming at warp speeds the annular confinement beam to
break up?”
The captain sat down again.
“Indeed, sir. That’s the one and only difficulty. If that happens, we will
lose Shane in the process,” Sturek said, confirming the captain’s words.
Mc7_of_9 stared to floor in front of him.
“So that discards that option,” the captain murmered.
“Perhaps not entirely,” Sturek said, “Beaming at warp is possible if two
ships travel at the same speed. But it may be possible to cheat on the laws of
physics.”
“How?”
“I’m still uncertain. But if we pass the base at warp nine, we should launch
probes at warp speeds just around warp 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5 etcetera. Beaming an
object at a speed of warp 1,99 to a ship at warp 2,01 is theoretically possible.
I’ll have to work it out, but It can be done I believe. For now, that’s the
only logical option I have for you, sir.”
Mc7_of_9 listened to Sturek’s words with doubt. He wasn’t doubting
Sturek’s explanation, but just the fact that what Sturek suggested had never
been done before. Wanting to think straight, he thanked Sturek who subsequently
left and he started thinking it all over again in the few minutes remaining
before the meeting with his senior officers.
Ensign Shane T'Pole
"2388!" Shane shouted again.
"Whats wrong Mr T'Pole?" Bolf asked. "I must say, T'Pole isnt a
very male name" He also added. "Its my mother's name. After she died,
i added it in honour of her. My Father was Human. I never did know my
mother." He finished. "Ahh good to here. i will be off." Bolf
said. For a Klingon, he wasnt emotional at all. "The Vesuvius. 2388."
His mother said again. "GET OUT!" shane yelled and went to bed. That
night he dreamed being aboard a Starship, The USS Vesuivus. "Welcome aboard
Mr T'Pole." Said the captain. "Is that my seat?" Shane said as he
pointed to the captains chair. They all laughed. Than the shuttle. The starbase.
It was all comming back. he had been brainwashed. He knew his mission. He knew
what he had to do. WIth the added bonus of having tatical drilled into his
brain. He also knew that at the station where they appointed him wouldnt had
been the REAL tatical station. he had to go about easy. He left his quarters and
headed for the main bridge. He arrived there as he would normally if it was
2496. He studied all the technologi he could and headed over to another officer.
"Why are we working together with Romulans, and Klingons?" Shane
asked. "Have you forgotten? We are here to conquer the Federation and all
the Galaxy. WE have support from high above!" Came the reply. Shane was
getting more and more suspicous. At the end of his shift, he did some snopping
around the starbase. He went into what looked like Cargo Bay 11, but turned out
to be something different. To his surprise he saw something that wasn't right.
It was completely wrong! The secert base was an attack force on the Federation,
but they were all Changlins! The founders were going to destory the Federation!
Shane could not let this happen, but how can he stop them.......
Ensign Sturek
The minutes remaining between
Sturek’s conversation with mc7_of_9 and the briefing, Sturek was working out
his idea on the probes. First of all, he had to modify the probes to enhance the
annular confinement beam so that it could keep the matter stream intact. So
Sturek started calculating, trying to find a reasonable minimum number of probes
to use. But after a while, it didn’t turn out to be so easy as he had
expected. For he had calculated the amount of probes to be necessary to cover
the speed difference between warp one and warp two to be merely two, but to
cover the speed difference between warp two and warp three was eight. The higher
the warp factor, the more probes had to be used. Sturek could only make the
probes cover up a maximum of five times the speed of light.
Given these numbers, Sturek grew increasingly worried. He could only imagine the
total number of probes the had to use. This was clearly going to be impossible,
even if they could time the launch of all probes carefully, he also had to
modify a large number of probes to eliminate the effect of the chroniton
particles. And how was he to do all that? Obviously, this idea had too many
flaws to be carried out.
Sturek’s hand reached out for his combadge, he wanted to tell the captain as
soon as possible. But then he had a new idea. Of course! Why hadn’t he thought
about this before?
With new hope, Sturek started calculating and simulating again, trying to find
out if this new idea of his could be done. And it could be done, it didn’t
took Sturek long to find that out. Glad that all hope on saving T’Pole was not
lost, Sturek tapped his combadge, as he had intended to do a few minutes
earlier.
”Sturek to mc7_of_9.”
“Yes ensign.”
“Sir, I’ve concluded my research on the idea with the probes.”
“And?”
“I have come to the conclusion that the idea is too unpractical to be used.
The sheer number of probes is to great.”
“That…, that isn’t good news at all,” Captain mc7_of_9 paused for a
moment, “Have you got anything else? There has got to be a way to get Shane
out of there!”
“Actually I have sir. May I suggest that I’ll tell you all about it during
the planned briefing. I’m still figuring out one or two things, so I could use
the time.”
“Of course! I’ll be glad to hear from you when it comes to that! Mc7_of_9
out.”
With the comline falling silent, Sturek resumed his simulations and calculations
for he wanted to have something that could work to present to the staff.
First Officer Fox
<0755>
Fox has set a countdown for the full staff meeting. The computer voice
announced: "T minus 5 minutes". On hearing that Fox got up
from the chair he was sitting in, ordered the computer to stop the
countdown and left his quarters to go to the Observation Lounge.
He walked toward the turbolift. When the doors of the lift opened he saw
Lieutenant JG Riker standing in there. He said 'good morning' to him and ordered
the lift to go to the deck where the Observation Lounge was located.
Arriving at the deck he stepped out the turbolift and headed to the Lounge. He
entered and saw the captain was already there.
"Good morning, captain." he said.
"morning, commander." came the reply "Take a seat the others will
be here soon."
Ensign Sturek
Deciding that he had confirmed his new
idea was indeed possible, Sturek saved all the progres he had made on the idea
and decided it would be best to go to the observation lounge.
With a PADD containing the information in his hand, Sturek walked through the
doors that slid open in a polite way.
"Good day to you all," Sturek said. Then, he assumed his place around
the table, waiting the briefing to begin.
Captain Mc7_of_9
The Captain looked around the table,
and realised that this was the first time he had all of his officers around the
table. As he looked around, a smile came to his face. He took his seat at the
head of the table, and said, "Ok people, the reason for this meting is to
try and devise a way of getting Shane home. I beleive that our best hope for
getting him back is for me to trun the breifing over to Ensign Sturek, as he has
devised a plan which will have Shane complaining back on the bridge in no time.
Ensign," the captain said, as he gestured to Sturek with his hand.
Ensign Sturek
Sturek stood up and activated the
large computer screen at the head of the table. After uploading the PADD data
into the computer, the Federation logo on the screen faded out to become a
whirlpool of numbers, figures and drawings. As none could see something in it,
let alone understand it, Sturek started presenting his idea.
“As we all know, mr T’Pole is being held in a starbase with far superior
weaponry and defence capabilities. We can only pass it from high warp, and since
transporting at high warp is not possible unless the starbase were also
travelling at the same speed, we need alternatives. My first idea, to use probes
to boost the annular confinement beam over the speed lag, proved to be
unpractical as the number of probes that was to be used rose to immense levels.
Therefore, I’ve come up with a new theory on how to save mr T’Pole. The
answer is subspace transport…”
Suddenly Sturek was interrupted by Keehn: “But that would be murder! You would
be putting his in a very unstable state of quantum flux! You’d get him
killed.”
“I may not know as much about this as you two, but he is right about that,”
mc7_of_9 said.
“Indeed true, sir,” Sturek continued, “under normal conditions that is. I
believe that if we were to use tachyon particles as a transporter carrier wave,
the state of quantum flux would be much more stable and be in reasonable levels.
The only thing is, that the chroniton particles prevent us from scanning
accurately and get a target lock. However, we can cancel that effect by using
anyon particles and transmitting them to the starbase. The only disadvantage is
that scanning becomes unreliable when being outside a three million km range,
this due to the tachyon particles. The transport process itself can be done from
up to five lightyears, so we wouldn’t be putting the ship in danger. But we
need someone to take a shuttle inside the three km perimeter to give us an
accurate targetlock.”
“Can’t we send in a probe?” Fox asked.
“I’m afraid not. I can’t do the necessary adjustments to a probe, not in a
short time anyway. And since we don not know in what conditions Shane is being
held, it may be imperative we get him out as soon as possible.”
“And can we take the Vesuvius in. It can surely take a few blows?” mc7_of_9
asked.
“That would be logical, but both the anyon and tachyon beams must be very
stable in order to be fully effective. That also means we must keep the ship
perfectly still. Or we risk getting Shane in the unstable state of quantum flux
after all,” Sturek said conclusive.
The room fell silent as all present thought the plan over.
Then, mc7_of_9 breached the silence: “So the only question is who is going
into that perimeter.”
“Correct sir.”
“Can’t we just autopilot a shuttle into that range. We can than reroute
power from life control and weapons to the shields in order to give it a little
more time,” Keehn suggested.
“That would be perfect. We only need the shuttle for less than a minute, if it
can find Shane fast enough. I believe the shuttle can survive up to thirty-five
seconds in a torpedo crossfire. And we need it to keep the targetlock for five
seconds. And I believe it would be wise to take of five seconds in case anything
may go wrong, giving the shuttle merely 25 seconds to locate Shane,” Sturek
said.
“That would require a major sensor upgrade, but I think I can manage,” Keehn
said.
“Good, than it would be logical to begin preparations as soon as possible,”
Sturek said, hoping the captain would agree with him and approve the plan, for
he was curious on what Shane had to tell them all. He was also wondering what
Shane was doing there, on the mysterious starbase that had gotten them into this
trouble…
Ensign Shane T'Pole
"Changlins?? he thought. he
looked again. No. He was mistaken. It was Speicies 8472. They are More
superiour, they have a grudge agaisnt Voyager and the Federation. he had read
over it. But this is just not right. They are acting as if that they were
terriosts so the Romulans will get blamed for attacking the Federation and
Federation with the Klingon Empire with get blamed for attacking Romulus and
there would be a huge war for many centuries for sure, crippling the quadrant
and letting and easy target to conquer all the worlds. But how to stop them?
Self destruct sequence. Shane had to do this some how. He also had to get back
to the Vesuvius. "All Hands to Battle stations" Cried the Admiral from
the comms. Shane rushed to his Tatical station.
"Lt Commander Shane, There have been a couple of probes probing this
station. We need you to destory them!" The romulan said to him. "Aye
Sir" Shane replied. he had an idea. the probes would still be transmitting,
so he used a holographic phaser fire just .1 seconds before a proper pahser fire
and hoped it work. The probes where destoryed, so he would have to wait on teh
Vesuvius....
Mean while on Holodeck 3 on the Vesuvius, a couple of crew members are taking a
break from the regular schedule when suddenly, a holographic phaser fire came
across them. "Computer, Freeze, Reply the last 5 seconds, 2 times
slower." the crewman said. Slowly, the Phaser fire showed again.
"COMPUTER FREEZE! Captain, come down to Holodeck 3, you should see
this!" The crewman said. "not right now, i am busy with a
conferance." the captain reply, "Its a messege from shane!" the
creman said over the comms. The captain looked at the senior officers from the
meeting, and all at once, they all ran down to Holodeck 3. "Sturek, can u
annylise this?" The captain said. " I sure can." Sturek said.
"Its a messege all right from the base. it says Doing Fine. Attemping
destory base. Speices 8472. Thats all it says." Sturek replied. "More
puzzels" Fox said....
Ensign Sturek
“Indeed, sir,” Sturek agreed to
captain mc7_of_9’s remark, “But it does suggest that ensign T’Pole isn’t
in a life threatening situation. Also he said that he was attempting to destroy
the base. My best guess is that we may learn more about this if we send more
probes in order to give mr T’Pole another chance to contact us about his
plans. If I’m correct, he will use the probes to contact us again and we may
time our transport better.”
“I agree,” mc7_of_9 said, “Get working on the subspacetransporter. I’ll
make sure we’ll get another probe around that base so Shane can contact us
again.”
“Yes sir,” Sturek said as he parted the holodeck and went to transporterroom
3.
Once there, he opened the hatch that gave him access to the transporter
controller unit. The large grey hatch opened easily. Behind it a lightshow of
flickering small lights unfolded before Sturek’s eyes. A lot of wires were
tangled around each other and around the controller unit Sturek was after. After
shutting down this part of the system, Sturek was able to get his hands on the
transporter controller unit and detached it. Leaving the hatch open, Sturek went
to one of the science labs to modify the transporter so that it could beam Shane
out when it was necessary. With all available equipment, Sturek reprogrammed the
transport sequence so it would transport through subspace and accept the
tachyon-particles as a carrier wave.
It took Sturek almost two hours to do the reprogramming and to add the finishing
touch
Quickly Sturek returned to the transporterroom to install the reprogrammed
transporter controller module. It didn’t take him long to place it back in
between the, seemingly, hundreds of wires and lights.
Sturek notified the captain of his progress and headed for the main deflector
dish to modifying it. It would take him quite some time to do this, for he first
had to make the dish compatible to support the anyon-beam. If he could, he would
have made the shield-bubble emit the beam, but that would be to unreliable and
to unfocussed to work and have the effect Sturek desired. And only the deflector
dish was powerful enough to send the beam all the way to the starbase and
support it long enough. Above all, the deflector dish was also extremely
reliable, something that was very important in this case.
Without having a single brake, Sturek completed his work here. With his hand he
tapped his commbadge: “Sturek to captain mc7_of_9.”
“Mc7_of_9 here.”
“Sir, I’ve completed my modifications to both the transporter controller and
the deflector dish. Only the emitter pad array needs to be altered so it can
transmit the tachyon carrier wave in stead of the traditional transporter
carrier wave.”
“Good work. Can you do the job on the emitter array now as well?”
“I think so sir. It will not be that much work. I’m confident I can do this
within the hour,” Sturek answered.
“Perfect. Let’s just hope Shane will leave us a message when were done.”
“Yes, sir.”
“Carry on ensign! Mc7_of_9 out.”
As the commline fell silent Sturek hurried to the bridge to access his console
and do all that was necessary to get the emitter pas array to emit a tachyon
carrier wave.
Sturek concluded his long workday on the bridge, bringing the provisional
subspacetransporter he had made on-line, ready to be used when necessary. A
whole day it had taken him to complete it, and now the moment of truth would
come. In a matter of seconds Sturek was going to test it with a test object.
“Ready when you are, sir,” Tehl’qi, a Benzite science officer, said.
“Energizing,” Sturek said as he activated the subspacetransporter form the
bridge.
“Sir, I’m seeing it! But, it isn’t rematerializing entirely!”
“Adjusting the tachyon carrier wave.”
“It’s going better now! It must be the ship’s warp engines interfering
with the tachyon beam.”
“I agree,” Sturek said. “This should do the trick.”
Sturek made yet another adjustment.
“We’ve got it sir! It’s working! Transport successful!” Tehl’qi yelled
enthusiastically.
“Then we have ourselves a subspacetransporter,” Sturek said. “good work.
Sturek out.”
And with that, the Vesuvius had means of transporting Shane T’Pole back aboard
when they desired.
First Officer Fox
Fox sat in his chair next to the
captain, when the doors of the turbolift opened. Sturek walked out of it. He
walked toward Mc7_of_9 and reported "Sir, the subspacetransporter is
ready".
"Now that's good news" he replied. "Keehn also finished his
ajustments to the shuttle. So it's time to get Shane out of there."
"Helm, max warp, cource our mysterious starbase."
In the mean time Fox had tabbed is comm-badge. "Bridge to Shuttle-bay,
prepair shuttle launch, launch on my signal."
Ensign Zerethia K'thimae'Zretha
Ensign ZRetha was sitting at her desk
in her cramped up quarters. they were standard issue for junior officers. Being
andorian she didnt like being out with the rest of the other officers. They held
a huge graduation party after all the cadets in her class graduated. She decided
not to go. Most andorians were agressive and passionate. Well Zretha was
exctally the same way even if she was only half. (bio will be up in a few days)
She ws a prefectionist. One thing she liked was metal music. Which she was
listening to right now. She decided to take the medical field in medicine
because being andorian, she wanted to be in a field that she could be passionate
and helpfull at at the same time.
She sat back and tapped the consol on her desk.
"medical officers presonal log. stardate 88.0127.0605" she said.
"it is 9 hours after becoming an ensing and I do not feel different. I do
not under stand the reason for thier partying. Even though I do like to savour a
few drinks now and then.
Well,,, I do have my orders. I am to head up the Medical department on the USS
Vesuvius. Only thing is they are not back from thier latest mission. So I am
taking some R & R till they get back. I hear they have a completly uptodate
medical facility. and That the Captain is Ex - Borg. Apparently Starfleet
thought he was an excelent Captain. Just as long as I dont get killed on the
first mission. I will not have any problem with this. Although he could be an
excelent specimin to examin... ah. i wont put to much into that. i will make it
a hobby finding about him.
I have read up on all the crew. Everything looks in order, that is if you havent
had any medical physicals in awhile. (lol) So when I on the ship first order of
business will be check ups with all the crew. even that Captain. which i have
found our they can have an adversion to doctors..... well i will have to be
persuasive with him,..
Ensign Sturek
With every minute, tension on the
Vesuvius increased. The excitement levels were rising with the second as it
still was unclear when Shane would be beamed aboard, if he was still alive…
In these times, nothing was sure and nothing was impossible. The last scans
showed no changes in and around the starbase, so all were still in good faith.
Among them, Sturek.
Having not slept for quite a while, Sturek was still working as hard as ever.
But then again, as a Vulcan he could survive for almost two weeks without sleep,
so it wasn’t a real problem. Even so, Sturek was beginning to feel the
symptoms of tiredness. But he also knew it was imperative not to lose his
concentration and he gave everything he had not to do so while he was working.
And working he had been for a long, long time…
On the Vesuvius’ bridge, everybody was even more anxious. At times it seemed
that the anxiety rose exponentially, at it could be true without doubt.
Especially now the subspacetransporter was ready.
“Sturek,” Fox said, “Are you ready?”
“Yes sir. All systems are standby and operating within normal perimeters. Sir
wait! The computer has got some new information about their shields.”
“What is it?”
“Intriguing. Sir! The shields, they were based on our technology, but only
against us!”
“What!”
“Confirmative. The shields are indeed designed against us. The computer has
got a match for the other part of the shields.”
“Well, don’t just stand there! What is it?” Fox asked intrigued.
“Sir, they consist of a bio-electrical forcefield system used by species
8472.”
“Impossible! How could they have gotten here?”
“There is a reasonable chance they have discovered means of entering this
quadrant from their space.”
“Aye… Well, this makes it even more imperative that we find a way to destroy
that base! Who knows what they can do to us if we don’t do anything! We saw
what they did to the Borg, imagine what they can do to us…”
“Sir, in the message mr T’Pole send us, he clearly stated his intention to
destroy the base. Wouldn’t it be logical to let him deal with the starbase? I
assume he must have an idea or he wouldn’t have said he was going to attempt
to destroy it.”
“You have any suggestions?” Fox asked, “Of course! A probe! That’s how
he contacted us the first time. Send in another one.”
“Aye sir,” Sturek complied as he started to prepare a class X probe for
launch, which didn’t take long, “Probe ready sir.”
“Launch it. If it’s destroyed launch a second one. We’ve got to make
contact with him again if he indeed is going to do so.”
“And he’s our best chance to destroy the starbase,” captain mc7_of_9 said
as he sneaked onto the bridge, “I’ve heard most you guys were saying.
Continue with that probe of yours. We need to time the beam out very
accurately.”
“Yes sir,” Sturek said pressing the launch button, “But this is the last
empty torpedo casing we had. If we are to send another probe we have to modify a
quantum torpedo.”
“But that would take hours,” mc7_of_9 pointed out, “That means this may be
out best possibility to get in touch with Shane again…”
On the main viewer screen they could see the probe fly at the starbase at a
comfortable speed of warp nine.
Sturek parked the probe in orbit around the base, knowing it could only maintain
the speed for six hours. Six hours Shane had to contact the Vesuvius again. Six
hours Shane had to clarify his plan. Six hours Shane had to let them know when
to beam him out. If only he could get a chance to contact the Vesuvius once
more…
Ensign Shane T'Pole
"Sir another probe is apporaching
the Starbase." A Lt called out to the Admiral. "Right. Shane, preper
to destory the probes." The Admiral replied. "Aye sir" Shane said
and Fired. he sent a new messege this time to the probes. Again he hoped he got
it out.
Back on the Vesuvius.
"Probes destoryed....reciving messege....holodeck 3 again sir."
they all raced down to holodeck 3 again.
"Analiszing....." Sturek started to say than had a weird look on his
face. "We have 2 days. in those 2 days we have once chance, which is only
3.7 seconds long." he finish.
"Whats his plan?" the captain said. "He is going to set the self
destract at a certain time. It will be a one second count down and will give him
3.7 seconds before the explosions hit him. the shields will go down straight
away. But, thats all we got. We haev to do it right!" Sturek finish as
everyone looked at him....
Ensign Sturek
Slowly, but gradually, the seconds
turned into hours and the hours turned into days, no matter how slow it seemed
to go at times. And every single second, sensors scanned the starbase for
irregularities that might indicate a very large explosion and that might
indicate it was time to get Shane of that starbase.
“Time left?” Captain mc7_of_9 asked.
“0 hours, 4 minutes, 31 seconds and counting,” Sturek noted. He had been on
the bridge all the time, not only because there were lives at stake, but also
because he was the only ‘expert’, if you’re allowed to call him that, that
knew how to operate the subspacetransporter. And he was also necessary in case
anything might go wrong during the transportcycle.
“The shuttle?” Fox asked looking at the captain.
Mc7_of_9 nodded silently, but the gesture was more than enough for Fox.
“Fox to Keehn, prepare to launch the shuttle on my order.”
“Keehn here,” the engineer responded, “Ready at your command.”
Fox took a deep breath: “Alright. Launch the shuttle, now!”
At the highest speed the shuttle could reach it coursed to the starbase. Then,
at 4 million kilometres, it stopped. But it was ready to move into the 3 million
km range when it was required to.
“Mc7_of_9 to Zhreta.”
“Doctor Zhreta here.”
“Doctor, prepare a medical team and take it to transporterroom 3. Shane might
be in need of medical assistance,” the captain ordered.
“Understood sir. I’ll be ready. Zhreta out.”
Silence returned to roam the bridge after the comm went dead. The deadly silence
was broken seconds later by Fox.
“Sturek,” he started, “What would be the first indication that Shane has
activated the self destruct sequence?”
Fox had already asked this question three or four times earlier that day, but
his nerves made him ask it again.
“I still believe that when the explosions start, the bio-electrical forcefield
will show fluctuations, sir,” Sturek replied.
Fox nodded as he stared to the starbase that was displayed on the main screen,
surrounded by the great unknown that was speckled with hundreds of little
lights: the magnificent stars that formed the even more magnificent cosmos.
“Then we will send in the shuttle that will find Shane, activate the anyon
beam and get mr T’Pole out as soon as we have got a sensorlock,” Sturek
assumed in order to silence Fox who was about to ask about that.
“How did you know I was going to be asking that stuff?”
“You did the previous four times you asked about the first indications of mr
T’Pole’s plan.”
“Right…”
And then it all started.
“Sir! I’m picking up minor fluctuations in the bio-electrical forcefield!”
Sturek reported.
“Send in the shuttle!” Fox ordered.
“Activating the anyon beam. It’s working!” Sturek said, “I’m getting
readings. Still searching mr T’Pole.”
On screen some parts of the base had caught fire or had been destroyed under the
burden of large explosions.
“I’ve almost got him. I’ve got the section, the deck, the corridor,”
Sturek said as the sensors focussed on Shane’s signal. Twenty long seconds had
passed now.
“Got him. Energizing. Tachyon beam is away. Dematerializing… Compensating
for bio-electrical interference… I’ve got the right frequency. Matter stream
is underway.” On the viewer screen the starbase disappeared, dissolved into
space. In one large explosion it was gone. On the place it had previously been,
the stars it had hidden from sight appeared in their greatness. “Processing
the matter stream through the pattern buffer and biofilter. Rematerializing.
Transport successfully completed sir.”
“Good work Sturek!” mc7_of_9 said as cheers travelled around the bridge.
“Thank you sir,” Sturek said, the he gestured to the door, “After you
sir.”
Then they all walked into the turbolift heading to transporterroom three.
Leaving only the many stars on screen to watch over the bridge, the stars that
all could contain the wonders of life, like Shane’s life which they had
preserved. For life was to precious to be lost amongst vast emptiness of the
universe…
Captain Mc7_of_9
Once Shane was back aboard the
Vesuvius, he was immedietely checked out by the ship's Doctor. Just as he was
given the all clear, he noticed the Captain, XO and Cheif Secince Officer come
into the transporter room. "Nice to have you back with us Mr T'Pole, but
next time your on an away mission, try and not cause as much trouble, will
you?" the Captain said. Shane looked at him, wondering if he was being
serious or not, but as a grin appeared on the Captain's face he relieased he was
safe(, for now anyway! LOL). The officers left, while Shane was escorted to
Sickbay for a more thourgh check up, and headed for the Bridge. When they enter
the captaiin ordered a complete sensor sweep of the area, to try and see if
there was anything left of the base, or it's inhabitants. When the reply came
through that there was nothing besides small paticles of debris left mc7_of_9
ordered a ourse to Starbase 24. When he finished giving this order, he looked
over to Lt Riker and said, "I believe Satrbase 24 is located next to the
Risa system, is it not Lt?"
Lt(jg) Riker
"I do now know Captain. How about
asking the helm officer?"
Ensign Shane T'Pole (FINAL POST)
Shane strode back onto the bridge
after a full bill of health with a not too happy face. "Whats wrong Mr
T'Pole?" The captain asked? "its just that. You see. I just have this
feeling." Shane finished. "feeling? Your a Vulcan" Sturek said.
"No, i am not Ensign whatsyour name" Shane said " I am half human
and use that too." He said. "Sturek's the name" Sturek said.
"Right." Shane contuined....."i just feel as if...they are still
here." Shane said. "You are probaly sad that they are gone. you did
what you had to did." The Captain said. "Yeah but at what
consequencers?" Shane asked, with no one answering the ship headed towards
the starbase and on to Risa.
THE END!
