Names
Be original in choosing a name. Don't necessarily name your character after one in the series'. In the same breath you don't have to use your own name, too many John smiths could get boring and confusing.
If your character is of an alien species ensure that your name reflects that races culture. No self-respecting Klingon would call herself Daphne.
Race
There are over 150 member worlds in the Federation so there is plenty of choice. Humans make up the bulk of Starfleet but this doesn't stop you choosing another race or even creating your own.
Try and keep the race in keeping within the realms of acceptability, No Q's or Superbeings, Borg and Species 8472 and other Delta Quadrant races should be avoided. If you really want one of these races then consult the Command Staff before doing it.
A guide to species that can be used can be found on the website here
Qualification
Be selective, not everyone's a genius or good at everything they do, so be reasonable.
Ensure that your qualifications and academy classes match your position. For example - If you're an Ops Officer your degree may have been in Operational Processes and Resource Allocation.
Appearance
This will give your crewmates an idea of your stature and person. If you want, you can also include a character image. This image should not be bigger than 30kb, and it should not be of a star trek regular. Either choose a guest star that fits your character's appearence, or you may also use a real life image of you in a star fleet uniform.
Background
This is the part where you can really go to town so be as inventive or brief as you wish.
Get your dates right, remember the Sim is set in 2390 and so workout chronology accordingly.
Ask your self some of these questions and your be well on your way. Where were you born? How were your parents? Do you have Siblings? Are you married? Do you have Children? What was your childhood like? Was Starfleet your first career choice? Do you have a tragic or sheltered past?
Service Record
This lists all your postings and promotions.
To start of with this will be pretty empty but as your career progresses the biographies officer will add when you were promoted or transferred. You don't need to keep track of this yourself.
Commendations and Reprimands
These two allow your character to evolve over the missions you take. Were your actions rewarded or did you overstep the mark?
Don't just give yourself a list of medals, one or two may be acceptable but try to avoid it, wait until you have earned them from your Commanding Officers. Official Section47 medals will be added for you by the biographies officer.
Medical Record
This adds more depth to your character. Were you a traumatised child? Do you have a niggling injury? Or perhaps a unique ability such as Telepathy or good endurance.
Interests
This is optional but it helps to show all the different facets of your character and can help people to get a feel for you and your character.
So there you go then, simple isn't it. You don't have to write lots but the more detail you put in the easier it will be for you and your crewmates to post. If you get stuck have a look at the Communication Corp Staffs bio to give you an idea. Remember have fun be inventive and keep it updated.
