Section 47 Rank Structure and Procedures

Since its foundation in 86.0507 (May 7th 2000) Section 47 has established a chain of command rank structure based on the current system used in Star Trek and some additions to meet our needs.

1) Flag Officers

These are the highest ranked members of Section 47 and should be treated with respect at all times:

Section Admiral (S Adm)
Fleet Admiral (F Adm)
Admiral (Adm)
Vice Admiral (V Adm)
Rear Admiral (R Adm)
Commodore (Cdor)

2) Commissioned Officers

These are the line officers of Section 47 and should be treated with the respect due their rank and position:

Captain (Capt)
Commander 1st Class (Cmdr)
Commander (Cmdr)
Lt. Commander (Lt.Cmdr)
Lieutenant (Lt)
Lieutenant Junior Grade (Lt.jg)
Ensign (Ens)

3) Academy Cadets

These are the ranks for Cadets currently in the Academy:

4th Year Cadet (CAD 1)
3rd Year Cadet (CAD 2)
2nd Year Cadet (CAD 3)
1st Year Class (CAD 4)

4) Addressing Officers

These are the accepted ways to address officers in Section 47:

Addressing a Flag Officer

Commodores will be addressed as "Commodore",
All ranks of Admiral regardless of grade will be addressed as "Admiral" not "Vice Admiral" or "Rear Admiral"

Addressing Commissioned Officers

Captains will be addressed as "Captain"; an Officer will also be addressed as Captain if they are commanding a ship regardless of their rank.
Commanders and Lt. Commanders will be addressed as "Commander" (note all officers of these ranks and below can also be addressed as "Mr" e.g. Mr Spock, Mr Paris by an officer of higher rank. At a Commanding Officer's pleasure, a female officer holding these ranks or lower can be addressed as "Ms", but they will normally respect the wishes of that officer. Please note it can be considered a sign of disrespect for a junior ranked officer to address any officer with the rank of Captain or higher by "Mr" as you will be implying they are junior officers)
Lieutenants and Lieutenants Junior Grades will be addressed as "Lieutenant"
Ensigns will be addressed as "Ensign"
All classes of Cadets will be addressed as "Cadet"

5) Ways to report

These are the accepted ways to report for duty once arriving on a ship (please note these are examples)

"Chief Operations Officer Ensign John Smith reporting for duty Sir"
"Chief Operations Officer John Smith reporting for duty Sir"
"Ensign John Smith reporting for duty Sir"

You may also give a brief induction to your character, this can be a short message giving background information such as a bio or by writing a post which is intended as part of the sim where by your character comes on board and meets his/hers fellow officers.
