General Simming
Guides General Guidelines for each Position (Help find the position best suited for you) Chief Navigations Officer (CNO) Chief Navigation Officer (Helm or sometimes referred to as CONN) is a vital position on a ship. The ship cannot go anywhere if there is no one to drive it. The Captain will tell you your course and destination and you will set that it. You might also be required to perform evasive manouvers during a battle. Chief Operations Officer (COO) The ops position is misunderstood by a lot of people. The chief operations officer operates the sensors. Operations runs scans on planets, in-ship sensor readings and long range sensors. Operations will also declare the status of your ship and the non-contact status of non-combat ships. Operations also look after the general running of the ship. Chief Tactical/Security Officer (CTSO) Tactical is the basis of every battle simulation. The Tactical officer needs to know how much damage has been infliceted to a ship after each round of firing. Tactical controls and fires weapons and activates and lowers shields (on command of the CO). They will also control the cloaking device if there is one on the ship. Scanning for cloaked ships is co-ordinated between tactical and operations. Tactical will run the ship to ship sensors which detect other ships in the area. The Security officer is responsible for the internal security of the ship. They will also manage the weapons lockers, detention cells, and alert status of the security teams. They manage the maintenance for security schedules. If tactical and security are different positions on a ship then the security officer will inform tactical about the work in advance. Security also selects a security officer for every away mission. Chief Science Officer (CScO) The science officer deals with detailed planetary scans, such as scanning for life signs that might be undetectable by normal means, scanning temporal anomalies, and scanning wormholes. Operations will typically detect something and the science officer will take over and run more detailed scans. Chief Engineering Officer (CEO) The Chief Engineer keeps the ship together during crisis situations, and balences shields and engineers during the normal run of the ship. The CEO can be called upon to perform everything from balancing the power distribution net to ejecting the warp core. The CEO is also good at problem solving and will be asked his opinion when there is no one on the bridge who can understand an engineering related problem. Chief Medical Officer (CMO) The Chief Medical Officer is vital to continuing functions of the ship and her officers. The job of the CMO is to ensure the ship is protected against any and all bio hazards and to approve any possible beam down coordinated to be safe for the away team from the biohazard standpoint. The CMO will usually do all the healing of battle wounded during battles. They are also required to act as the head doctor to everyone on the ship and run regular physicals on the crew. Ship's Counsellor (CNS) The ship's counsellor is the starship officer responsible for the emotional well being of the ship's crew. A counsellor's duties include providing individual guidance and advice to crewmembers, as well as periodic crew performance evaluations, usually performed with the ship's executive officer or other departmental heads. A counsellor is also expected to provide advice to the Captain on command decisions. The counsellor is authorised to relieve an officer of active duty if they are deemed psychologically unfit. |
