Tired of Your Answering Machine ID reading "Unknown Caller" ? You get a call and the person on the other end says: "Hi, I'm [insert name] from Public Insight and we're a national research firm. . ." or "Hi, I'm [insert name] from Opinion Research. . ." or "Hi, I'm [insert name] from USA Poll. . ." or "Hi, I'm [insert name] from Golden Apple Research. . ." You tell them to take your name off of their calling list or you tell them that you are on the DO NOT CALL list but neither response will be effective. For one, the DO NOT CALL list does not apply to telemarketers masquerading as phone survey companies like the company you have most likely have received the call from. You need to write your congressman or senator to have the terms of the list revised to include phone survey companies. In all likelihood, the company who called you was probably Cherry Communications in Tallahassee, Florida. Cherry Communications does a lot of cold survey calling for Republicans and recently they have been conducting "energy issues" surveys. These "energy issues" surveys are really phone ads for ConocoPhillips, Inc., which is an oil company seeking to sell itself as an environmentally friendly, consumer conscious company that does not gouge its customers. Tired of getting these phone calls? Tired of getting phone ads disguised as surveys? Call Cherry Communications @ (850) 561-3600 and tell them to stop. You should also write or call your congressmen and/or senator and have them introduce legislation to keep Cherry Communications from annoying you with their phone ads. However, be forewarned that if your elected representative is a Republican, you might be ignored because in all likelihood, he or she has probably used Cherry Communications in the past to make campaign calls.
