1966- John Lennon causes a stir when in an interview he says: "We're more popular than Jesus right now." Thousands of Beatles records are smashed in public riots and radio stations stop playing their songs. He later corrects himself.
1970- Since a lawsuit was pending from the family of Ferdinard von Zeppelin's family, Led Zeppelin performs in Denmark under the name "The Nobs"
2000- Eric Clapton is inducted into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame for the third time. He had previously been inducted with The Yardbirds and Cream.

1. Plans for a new TV sitcom centered around a rock star are in the works. City Chipack, former writter for Everybody Loves Raymond and Sex in the City, has been working with Elton John to right the series. They claim the lead character is a cross between Mick Jagger, David Bowie, Rod Stewart and Freddie Mercury.
2. NEW ALBUM! The Moody Blues dropped a 34 Track 2-CD compelation yestereday (3/1/05) called "GOLD." The compelation includes such favorites as Nights in White Satin, I'm Just a Singer in a Rock 'n' Roll Band, and Ride My See-Saw. The Moody Blues are currently touring Austrailia and New Zealand but don't worry they will be back with a North America tour this summer.

1960- Jimi Hendrix made his stage debut when he played a show at a Seattle High School.
1976- Eagles "Greatest Hits" become the first album to ber certified 'platinum.' The new certification originated in the early 70's because 'gold' status was being achieved too quickly. It represents sales of at least 1 million albums.
1989- A new category is added to the Grammy Awards, Heavy Metal. Although Metallic performs at the award show they loose the inagural award to the band Jethro Tull.

1. Jerry Lee Lewis has announced that he will release a new album next summer (2006). He will be joined by Bruce Springsteen, Paul McCartney, and Kid Rock.
2. There is a new reality show to hit US airwaves soon. "Search for the Next Pearl" will be looking for the next Janice Joplin. The winner of the show will go on tour with members of her former backup bands.

1957- Cuban officials put a ban on Rock 'n' Roll programs on television because they are "offensive to public morals and good customs." They would soften their stand in a few days allowing the programming with strict guidelines.
1961- Frank Sinatra founds his own record label, vowing never to sign any rock artists. The label, REPRISE RECORDS, later went on to sign Neil Young, Jimi Hendrix and the Beach Boys.
1976- The Eagles release "Greatest Hits" which is still the best selling record of all time.

1. The New York Post reported that Paul McCartney earned $3.3million for his twelve minute Super Bowl Halftime Show, that's $278K per minute.
2. Rolling Stone released the top money making rockers of 2004. First was Prince ($56.5m), second Madonna ($54.9m), followed by Mettalica ($43m), Elton John ($42.9m) and Jimmy Buffett ($36.5m). Total was calculated from ticket and record salces, publishing royalties, and other related revenue.
3. Drummer Keith Knudsen from the Doobie Brothers died on Tuesday February 8th from pnuemonia at the age of 56, he had also been battling cancer. Knudsen was with the band from the founding unil 1982, he rejoined in 1993.

2. 1964- On February 9th, the Beatles appeared for the first time on the Ed Sullivan Show playing "All My Loving" "Till There Was You" "She Loves You" and "I Want to Hold Your Hand."
3. 1987- Sonny Bono declares his candidacy for mayor of Palm Springs and wins.
4. 1989- Tiny Tim declares his candidacy for mayor of NYC and loses.

1. The new Paul McCartney album "Love Songs" has been scrapped due to problems obtaining copywrite permission to use such songs as "Michelle" and "Yesterday" because they are property of the entire group. However the "McCartney in Red Square" DVD will be released as scheduled in May.
2. PBS has announced that "One Night with Rod Stewart" has been added as a pledge drive during the spring season. The concert features guest appearences by Ronnie Wood (The Rolling Stones) and Chrissie Hynde (The Pretenders) and will be hosted by Dame Edna Everage. No specific date has been announced.
