Renegade Rewind part 12, and a few other things! 6:54 A.M. - Alien13UFO

First of all, check out Part 12 in Westwood's continuing series highlighting various hands-on Renegade experiences by Westwood employees. This weeks is from Delphi (a.k.a. Chris Rubyor):

I've been waiting a long time to play this baby in all its 3D glory, and my first real multiplayer experience was awesome! The other day Devinoch (Renegade community manager) and I loaded up a multiplayer DM game, I wasn't sure what to expect, but when Tiberium shards started pummeling me out of nowhere, it became clear that it was do or die. The level was based around a NOD radar installation, now being a big C&C fan I was in awe of the level detail that went into creating the environment. It looked and sounded just like I imagined it would. After dying a few times from being awe struck, I proceeded to unleash a furry of rockets upon Dev, but after tripping over a few mines, and being torched by flame throwers, I decided to quit out and keep what dignity I could.

"If youre a C&C fan, your going to be wiping up a lot of drool from the sites and sounds found in Renegade. If you're a hardcore multiplay action guy the unique weapons, vehicles, and gameplay will keep you coming back for more. I look forward to playing again."

- Chris "Delphi" Rubyor

Next, go to our new message board! When smwScott (from my boards) told me that after a month after registered, I would have to PAY for my board, I immediatly looked for a new one. Special thanks to Ryan from Renegade Extreme for hosting the MB for us.

Last, but not least, Gamespot UK has conducted an interview with Dan Cermack, executive producer of Renegade. Heres a bit

Q: With war raging, is it really possible to use stealth?

We put you in the middle of quite a war but there are ample opportunities to use stealth, especially when you use the suppressed pistol. The pistol makes almost no noise so AI will be unable to respond to the muzzle fire, although they will still hear a ricochet. We have multipliers for hitting a soldier in specific areas of the body and if you catch them when they are not alert, you get an even greater modifier.

Q: How does enemy artificial intelligence work?

AI units are affected by what they see, what they hear, the mode they are in, weapon range, etc. The grunt class has a smaller hearing radius and shout radius than the officer, and the officer is smaller than the Special Forces. Officers have innate behaviour, which causes them to hang back and direct traffic. They are more powerful but are involved in coordinating the arrival of reinforcements.

Well, thats it for my big update. See ya!

Tools of the Trade Continues! 2:55 P.M. - Alien13UFO

Continuing with our weekly series, here's an image and short description of one of the vehicles, weapons or characters that our boy Havoc comes in contact with out on the Command & Conquer battlefield. This week we're highlighting the GDI Grenadier soldier

Description:
The Grenadier is a specialized, highly-motivated infantry unit. Entrusted with the standard-issue Kestrel grenade launcher, Grenadiers are often deployed immediately behind frontline minigunners and grunts to lend suppressive fire support and to punch holes through fortified enemy emplacements with their high-explosive rounds. Friendly troops - including free-wheeling commandos - would do well to know the whereabouts and activities of nearby Grenadier teammates; collateral damage and friendly fire from Grenadiers is a constant concern out on the battlefield.

Renegade Unplugged! 7:00 P.M. - Alien13UFO

Straight from Westwood:

The boys at IGNPC.com spent some quality time with our favorite GDI bad boy and have filed a report in the September issue of their members-only online magazine, IGN Unplugged. Editor In Chief Stephen Butts had a few choice words regarding his impressions of the game:

"strategy gamers are going to square off against action fans in one of the most innovative and appealing cross-genre approaches yet."

"A very fluid camera and some compelling animations make it all believable."

Unfortunatly, I cant post whats in it, because I am not going to pay for it.

Havoc in The Sims! + some more 3:13 P.M. - Alien13UFO

First of all, over at the Official Renegade Site, they have released a Havoc skin for The Sims. Now you can play as your favorite commando in a modern day suburbia! Click Here to download it!

Second, there was a question about mod compatiblility on the Official Renegad Forusm about Mod compatiblility.

x5: Will Renegade be Mod Compatible? Like Half Life,Q1,Q2,Q3 are? Cause if its not Renegade wont be very big...

Devinoch-WS: We haven't announced anything, but we are very heavily looking into some options and when we're ready to let you know, I think you'll be pleased. :)

I think Devinoch may have been hinting towards Mod compatability, which will be great!

Renegade Rewind part 11. 2:57 P.M. - Alien13UFO

Yet another Renegade Rewind! This time its from Michael Shelling. Here it is:

"I was hiding behind some boxes near this snowbound chateau. Lucky for me I wasn't really in the game. It looked so cold, my chattering teeth would have given me away to the two Nod flametroopers that were snooping around. When their backs were turned, I popped one of them with a couple of shots with my suppressed pistol. I hit his tanks, and he blew up real good. The other guy started to run away, and he got the same treatment.

"I ran around the corner and ducked behind some more crates, just in time to miss getting popped by a guy in a tower. I took the sniper rifle and zoomed in on him. This was something new; I had a Nod Black Hand sniper dead in my sights. One shot, cancelled all of his haircut appoinments for the future. There was this huge alcove to my left; I made my way towards it, taking care of a few more flametroopers along the way. Peering around the wall, I was in commando heaven: a Nod APC, and several Nod minigunners were sitting ducks in an open courtyard. They were looking for some trouble, and I was ready to oblige. But first, I had to get rid of the Nod Rocket Soldiers on the walls around the perimeter. As if that weren't enough, I could hear the sound of an Apache chopper in the distance........"

- Michael Shelling (aka Dingus)

Don't you just love these?

Havoc smack continues! 9:45 A.M. - Alien13UFO

Here's the next round of email responses from the commando with all the answers, Havoc.

Submit your questions to [email protected], and we'll make sure he checks his email long enough to answer a few of your burning inquiries.

Here is my favorite one from this round:

Q. As a GDI commando, you've got to do quite a bit of dirty work to complete your mission. What do you find the most comfortable during your missions - boxers, briefs, or Hanes?

- Computermonkey

A. Underwear?

News from DanC-WS (from the Renegade Forum) 12:25 P.M. - Alien13UFO

If you are a frequent visitor to the official Renegade Forum, like I am, you know DanC-WS is one of the head guys on the Renegade Team. Anyway, here is his update on what they have been doing in the past couple days.

Hello everyone, Sorry for the delay in getting another update posted. We kicked it into another gear (and we had been gunning the engine already). The single player environments (hate to call them levels cuz they are so big) are looking really good. Continuing to add polish and tighten up the pacing. Got voice in and it makes a real difference in feel. Spending a lot of time in C&C mode. We are working hard to create levels where there is foot access to the enemy base and still lots of room for vehicle combat. Makes for some interesting layouts. We are concentrating on getting the min spec pushed down. I have seen the game run very well on some pretty low level machines. The issue about how low we can go looks to be memory (RAM) not CPU. Not set yet but getting close. Revamped the first person weapon animations. Have much better feel, more weight to them. Alot of press have been through lately. Really enjoying the game, everyone says the same thing: really feels like you are in the middle of a C&C war.

Tools of the Trade Series Kicks off! 8:16 A.M. - Alien13UFO

Westwood has just announced their 'Tools of the Trade' series! I have to tell you, it looks like it will be awesome! Here is the first installment.

We're happy to unleash a new weekly series titled Tools of the Trade. Each week, we'll provide an image and short description of one of the vehicles, weapons and people that Havoc comes in contact with out on the Command & Conquer battlefield. This week we're highlighting the Nod C-130 cargo plane. Enjoy!

Description: This airborne carrier transports Nod supplies, vehicles and infantry to bases and hotspots throughout the world. Slow and unarmed, the C-130 can absorb a tremendous amount of damage and is the ideal platform for 'touch-n-go' dropoffs on short airfields. During multiplayer games, purchased Nod vehicles are delivered to the airstrip via lumbering C-130s - a most impressive sight!

Avault Renegade Preview 7:20 A.M. - Alien13UFO

The guys over at the Avalt have put up a lenghty Renegade preview with new screen shots! It's definantly worth a read. Here is a snipet of it.

Throughout Renegade's single-player campaign, Havoc will encounter many familiar faces, buildings, and vehicles all drawn from the C&C world. Units like the Orca Fighter, heavy gunner, and bazooka soldier all make their reappearance, as well as the lumbering Tiberium-collecting harvesters, drivable Hum Vees, Nod Buggies, and even Stealth Tanks. Now for the first time, players can actually walk inside C&C buildings like the large Construction Yards, the unit-producing Hand of Nod, or even the deadly Obelisk of Light, with the goal of placing the all-important C4 explosives on their Master Control Panels to permanently disable them. In addition to the old standards, there will be new units as well. According to Cermak, "We had to end up creating a whole other level of character set to give you a little more variety in the game. You used to have mini-gunners and rocket-guys ... well, we created ranks and officers, all that sort of thing, to flesh it out and give you a little bit more challenge across the board."

Also, I'm pretty griped at Westwood right now, because they STILL have not put my link on their fan site page :(.

Track down the official themepack and the renegade rewind! 6:30 P.M. - by Alien13UFO

Over at the official site, they have made an official themepack for Renegade! The only thing is, you have to earn it :). Here is what you must do.

The mission: track down the five mini-games throughout the site (designated by the 'ringing present' icons).

The objective: defeat all five mini-games in any order.

The reward: the official Renegade themepack for you desktop.

Now go to it, soldier.

Also, the Renegade Rewind, part 9 is up. Here it is:

"I charged out of the compound, thinking I'd evaded the bulk of the Nod reinforcements. It was dark, but there was enough moonlight to determine that I'd landed smack in the middle of a snowy hedge maze, kind of like in the Shining. Crunching through the aisles, I would switch periodically to the light-intensified sniper mode to get a clearer look through the maze. Finally, I spied a door at the end of one of the rows. Sprinting toward the door, I about jumped out of my chair when a Nod flame trooper burst from an opening and cut loose with his weapon. Jumping the flame, I wheeled in mid-air and dropped him point blank with a sniper rifle shot between the eyes. Oh yes, that felt good. Real good."

- Mike Bell

Okay, well thats it for today. Remember to go to the forums, and register :).
