"CONFEDERATE VETERAN MAGAZINE"

The "Confederate Veteran" Magazine Was Established In January Of 1893 By Journalist Sumner A. Cunningham, A Veteran Confederate Sergeant Major In The 31st Tennessee Infantry, Publishing Biographies And Mamoirs Of Southern Soldiers And Articles About Re-Unions, Monument Dedications And Confederate Army Life In General.  After Sumner A. Cunningham's Death In 1913, Edith Pope Took Over Publications, Which Continued Until December Of 1932.  Complete 40 "Year Runs" Of The "Confederate Veteran" In Its Originial Format Are Located At The Newberry Library In Chicago; The University Of South Carolina In Columbia; The Tennessee State Library & Nashville Public Library In Tennessee; The State Department Of Archives And History In Jackson, Mississippi; The Princeton University In New Jersey; The Cleveland, Ohio Public Library; The North Carolina State Library In Raleigh; College Of William & Mary In Williamsburg, Virginia; The University Of Texas In Austin; George Peabody College in Nashville, Tennessee; Cossett Reference Library In Memphis, Tennessee; Washington & Lee University In Lexington, Virginia; North Texas State College In Denton; Western Kentucky State College In Bowling Green; And The United States Army Military History Insititue In Carlisle, Pennsylvania.
The "Confederate Veteran Magazine" Is Still Published Bi-Monthly For The Members Of The Sons Of Confederate Veterans As A Way To Further And Promote To The Present And To The Futrue Generations, The Proud And Gallant Cause Of The Confederate Soldier During The War Between The States.

Upon Our Initial "Organizational Meeting," Which Occurred On 20 September 1995, The Matthew Fontaine Maury Camp #1722, Army Of Northern Virginia Department, Virginia Division, 5th Brigade, Fredericksburg, Virginia Was "Chartered" As An Officially Sanctioned S.C.V. Camp As Of 11 December 1995 By The International Organization Of The Sons Of Confederate Veterans Located In Maury County, Columbia, Tennessee.  Our "Chartered Membership" Included 15 Members As Of That Date And Presently, Our Camps Membership had Grown to A Total Of 100 Members, Which Also Include "Associate Members."
Sons Of The Accomplisments Of The Camp Have Been:  The Internment Of "Rebel Butler" At The Spotsylvania Confederate Cemetery In Spetember 1996; The "Rebel Butler" Headstone Dedication In August 1997: Yearly Decoration And Participation In The "Decoration Day Ceremonies" Within The Fredericksburg Confederate Cemetery; Yearly Purchasing And Donating "Proud Banners" To The Fredericksburg Confederate Cemetery For The Decorating Of The Graves By Our Camp For Decoraton Day Ceremonies; Actively Supporting The Ladies Memorial Association Of Fredericksburg In The Preservation Of The Fredericksburg Confederate Cemetery After Numerous Attacks Of Vandalism And Destruction Of Confederate Headstones There; Providing The Materials And Manpower To Accomplish The "Lighing" Of The Fredericksburg Confederate Cemetery; Cleaning Of The Headstones Within The "Cross Of Honor" Located In The Fredericksburg Confederate Cemetery; Rebuilding A Section Of The West Confederate Cemetery Brick Wall Which Collapsed; The Restoration Of The 1870 Fredericksburg Confederate Cemetery Entrance Gate; Yearly Donations To The Wallace Library And The Salem Church Library For Subscriptions To The Confederate Veteran Magazine; Yearly Participation At The Anniversary Ceremonies Held For The Battle Of Fredericksburg At The Sergeant Richard Rowland Kirkland Statue With The Department Of The Interior, National Park Service, Fredericksburg And Spotsylvania Batlefield National Military Park; Hosting The First "Dedication Ceremonies" At The Rappahannock Church Cemetery In Westmoreland County For The Confederate Veterans Buried There And The Many Reoccurring Activities The Camp Is Also Involved Within During The Year.

Joining Us In Our Activities Are The General John Bankhead Magruder Chapter # 258 Miliraty Order Of Stars & Bars And The Lucy Ann Cox Chapter # 4 Order Of Southern Gray To Which We Owe Many Thanks.

In Remembrance To Our "Proud And Gallant" Ancestry Of The Confederate States Of America, We Willingly Partake Within These Endeavors As Our "Duty" To Them...  Those Men And Women Who Gave Us "Our Proud Heritage" Of That Which We Hold And Venerate...  To Those That Bequeathed To Us That Proud Tradition Of The South, Which Gave Us A Sense Of Honor And Tradition Which We Cherish, That Respect For Womanhood...  Trust In The Almight God Above...  For Which We Give Our Sincerest Thanks As
