Richard Lee "Tex" Abel of Dumfries died Sunday, 26 March 2000 at Potomac Hopsital.
He was a lifelong resident of Dumfries and was one of the original Members of the Prince William County Police.  He started with the Sheriff's Office and retired from the Prince William County Police Department in 1997 with a combined Police Service of 32 years.  He was a Member of The Fraternal Order of Police, The Police Association, American Legion, The Blue Knights #12 and the Matthew Fontaine Maury Camp #1722 Sons of Confederate Veterans in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
Compatriot Richard Lee "Tex" Abel was burried on Wednesday, 29 March 2000 at 12 noon in the Abel Family Cemetery which adjoins the Quantico National Cemetery.
