BREAKERS 7, SO CAL ALL STARS 4

Breaker’s manager Joe Nixon wishes maybe he could’ve kept his word. After vowing never to pitch to Guerrero, Guerrero hit a 678 ft HR in the first inning. “Was it really that far?  Novin said Guerrero was infront of Knoblach in the  lineup, not infront of Griffey. I can’t give Griffey base-runners”  When asked about the incredibly distance of the homer ... Guerrero stated "They no give accurate report...game in Canada Home Run Go 678 Meters" That started the game off with 1-0 lead

Guerrero terrorized the Long Beach Breakers in other ways as well. He was intentionally walked in his next AB and stole second despite a pitchout. He popped up in the 7th and in the 9th had an RBI single.
Ending the day 2-4.

However; the Breakers came right back at the top of the second. Canseco doubled down the line and Vasquez (0-4) bunted him to third. Henderson walked. Raines fly-ed out in a near HR. Then Green connected for his 4th career HR moving him to undisputed second on the all-time HR king rankings. Green struggled the rest of the day with two pop-ups and a strikeout.

But; the damage was done.

Coach Novin was overheard shouting “shiiiiiiittttttt” when Green made contact.

In the fourth Reese (single and a double) doubled in Raines for a run. Too make it four to to one. Vasquez continued to pitch well and had a great start ending with CG and 7 ks

In the 7th Soriano hit a Solo homerun and Larkin like Guerreo hit a HR in his first Major League AB to make with Wicki Gonzo on base 7-1 in the 7th.

That was enough for Halladay and Arthur Rhodes pitched the eighth and Tom Gordon took them through the 9th

Vasquez tired and weary took the mound however; Lo Duca singled and Cliff Floyd stepped to the plate
Vasquez’s pitch was sent back the other way for a HR. Vasquez slumped to the ground and was totally shell-shocked. He fought back meekly getting two outs. With Ichiro already on and Guerrero stepping into the batters box   They were the first batters to reach second since Guerrero’s HR.

Vasquez made an odd motion with the ball and the umpire chastened him to  cut it out. Thinking Vasquez had scuffed the ball. In the end it didn’t matter to Guerereo , who finished his mammoth game with a clutch RBI single.

It was now a save situation. With Ichiro on third and Vlad at first the crowd held its breath on a 2-2 pitch to Ken Griffey, Jr. Vasquez’s pitch sailed across the plate and jumped off the mound pumping his fists in the air, The umpire signaled ball. Vasquez was pissed and asked the ump for an appeal. The umpire refused but; it was unnecessary; Griffey swung wildly and grounded up to Vasquez who trotted over to first for the out.

In the end Manager Joe Nixon summed it all up “They need A-rod”

WP: Vasquez (1-0) 7k’s CG 4.00 ERA
LP: Halladay (0-1) 8 IP 8 K's, 7.88 ERA

Notes
Tim “Rock Raines” who went 3-4 with a Walk, Single, Double, two out Triple an a SB and two runs. Effectively the cycle

Wicky Gonzo was 1-4
