Fantasia was a really cool movie. It is both an animated and a musical masterpiece. This movie used to calm me to sleep when I was a kid at my babysitter's house.
I recall that the Chernabog segment of the film was by far the darkest part of the entire collection.
For those of you who are confused, Chernabog was a giant evil gargoyle-looking demon. He came out of the shadows at night, from atop Bald Mountain, and cast his shadow over a sleeping town below. He began to summon evil spirits. They swirled around him on the mountain, performing his dark will.
The only thing that stood in this dark demon's way was the pure light of the dawn. When the morning's first light began to stretch over the horizon, Chernabog retreated back into his shadowy cave to hide from the sun until the next night. I'm assuming the demons that he was conjuring represent nightmares. |
