The days were filled with scurry and choices
The evenings were met with internal voices
The selecting of clothes
The choosing of baubles
The minister hired
The groom re-proposes
A ring for her finger
the groom he declines
the minister visits
the words to define
the date now set
the location is scouted
a charming hotel that others have touted!
Invites now posted in elegant letter
we wonder out loud
if elopement is better.
The principals nervous
the guests now arrive
the groom handles jokes
the bride stands close by
the minister sips a drink of sweet wine
and utters the words to make it divine.
It came with balloons and just one red rose
the bride in black velvet
the groom all aglow.
Hand in hand,
we now stand together
the minister telling of
all that God teaches.
With love and desire
we whisper our speeches
There's oaths about pledging
our goods to each other
don't forget to be faithful
and cleave to no lover.
Our eyes are now glazing
our knees giving way
the "ido's" flew right by us
are we done for the day?
So that was our wedding
on New Year's Eve Day
with all this behind us
I guess we will stay.
