Abbey Westmalle

Historic

The village of Westmalle is situated in the North of Antwerp (in the Kemps).  This is the birthplace of the brewery of Westmalle.
The abbey was build in the end of the 18th century and wanted only to brew for own consummation.  But in the beginning of the 19th century the first beer came on the market. This beer was Westmalle Double.

But actually the beer was just obtainable around the end of the 19th century. The beer was actually just sold to support the work of the missionaries. And this only in their own village, afterwards in the beginning of the 20th century it was olso introduced in the foreign world. After the second World War they also sold  the gold coloured beer with the mane of Westmalle Trippel.
On the glasses and labels was the label of Westmalle denounced.
