Norwegian
This is my new web page that I am working on for the genealogy class at the senior center here in Marysville. I am doing a research on my mothers parents. Both came from Norway. This has been very exciting. I have located 4 1st cousins of my Mothers on her Fathers side. My sister and I are going on a trip to Norway this comming July. We will first go to Oslo and meet Inger and a lot of other relations and do some sight seeing, then we will travel together to Gursken Island, to the town of Larsnes where another cousin, Kirsten lives. We will spend several days there, meeting relaltions, looking at the area that my Grandfather was born and raised in. He came from the Leikanger farm.
From there, we will travel to Mo i Rana in Nordland county. It is Northern Norway. That is where my Grandma is from. We will spend a few days their driving around looking at all the farms and doing some sight seeing. From there we will fly up to Narvik where we have some relations and hopefully can find them and meet them. Then we will go to Bodo. At the airport, there is a life size cardbord cutout of Gidsken Jakobsen, who was my Grandmothers cousin. She was the second female pilot in Norway. Then we fly back to Oslo and back home. It should be quite a trip.
I enjoy this class and am learning a lot. Everyone should join us.
GRANDMA'S SIDE
Ellen Nilsdatter in her home in Norway
Mathilda Fredricka Mathisen was from the Yttern farm.
She had 3 brothers and 2 sisters that lived. Her brothers stayed in Norway but her two sister came to America after Grandma did.
She came in 1895 when she was 16years old. She started out in
Minot, North Dakota and was a live in house worker for a while.
She married her first husband and they came to the Seattle Area
and had 3 children. Grandma worked in a restraunt in Seattle for
awhile. It is hard for me to imigian how much traveling folks
did in those days. Gramdma and her first husband were divorced
around 1914. My Grandma traveled back and forth to Alaska
several times as well as traveling around in Alaska. She
married my Grandfather in 1916. They settled down (well sort of)
in Petersburg where my Mother, Mathilda Gurene Lucille Isaacson
Smith, was born in 1920.

GRANDPA'S SIDE
GUSTAV MATHIAS ISAACSON
My Grandpa came from the Leikanger farm on Gursken Island. He had 3 brother and 1 sister. Grandpa and 2 of his brothers came
to America. They came to Seattle, Washington about 1902. Ole
died young in Seattle and Herman went back to Norway and married
his sweetheart and raised his family on the Leikanger farm. My
Grandfather was a fisherman and had his own boat. He married my
Grandma in 1916 in Petersburg, Alaska. In 1920 my mother was
born. His last boat was the Middleton. A great fishing boat. I
spent a lot of time on it when I was young.
