As the story goes in the following year, that being 1899, great-grandpa Amos had been working in a store in the Arvin-Lamont area. He took the team to make some deliveries from that store. On the way to Buttonwillow with the team he see's the store in Rosedale and decides to stop for lunch. After lunch he went back to the store in the Arvin-Lamont area and told his employer that he had made a deal with the owner to buy the store in Rosedale. So he did! He ended up buying the store in Rosedale and he ended up tearing down the original store and used the material to build the white house for his right-hand man, Arthur Stancliff who would watch the store so that Amos could spend time hunting, fishing, and going to the Ocean to dig clams. He built the store as it stands today in Rosedale. |
