NATHAN JONES
[Single Version]
Although the lyrics only differ slightly, the album and single version of NATHAN JONES differ dramatically. This was the last single to be released from the popular album WOW! and was a cover song previously made famous by the Supremes. The dance routine is very popular among fans, especially since it was performed on the 'Great British Pop Machine' in a particular episode hosted by French and Saunders. Funnily enough, in their 1988 Xmas Special, French, Saunders and comedian Kathy Burke parodied the song with a version of 'Jimmy Mack'.
LYRICS

You packed your bags, as I recall
And you walked slowly down the hall
You said you had to get away
To ease your mind
And all you needed was just a little time

Oh, winters passed, spring and fall
You never wrote me (you never wrote me)
You never called (you never called)

Nathan Jones, youve been gone too long
Nathan Jones, youve been gone too long

If a woman (do, do, do, do, do)
Could die of tears (do, do, do, do, do)
Nathan Jones, well, I wouldnt be here (ooh, ooh, ooh)
The key that youre holding wont fit my door
And theres no room in my heart, for you no more (do, do, do, do, do)

Oh, winters passed, spring and fall
You never wrote me (you never wrote me)
You never called (you never called)

Nathan Jones, youve been gone too long
Nathan Jones, youve been gone too long
Nathan Jones, youve been gone too long
Nathan Jones, youve been gone too long

(Do, do, do, do, do, do) (Do, do, do, do, do, do)
(Do, do, do, do, do, do) Ooh (Do, do, do, do, do, do)

Oh, winters passed, spring and fall
You never wrote me (you never wrote me)
You never called (you never called)

Nathan Jones, youve been gone too long
Nathan Jones, youve been gone too long
Nathan Jones, youve been gone too long
Nathan Jones, youve been gone too long
Nathan Jones, youve been gone too long
Nathan Jones, youve been gone too long

THE VIDEO

Strangely, the video for this single focuses mainly on the girls singing and dancing with the ever popular three male dancers. There's some, erm, falling fruit in there and some big hats too. More importantly though, it shows that dance routine in all its glory so get your dancing shoes on and your rewind button at the ready!
