Cadences/Jodies
Cadence calls (or jodies) are songs that the military sing when marching or running in formations.  They are used to keep the formation in step, motivation, or to get the soldier's mind off how cold/hot it is or how much their feet hurt.
The person in charge of the formation is usually the one who calls cadence.  Each line is called on the left foot.  The formation repeats each line after it is called.
Marching cadences have a cadence of 120 steps per minute.
Running cadences have a cadence of 180 steps per minute.
