SOLDIER

Just saw a body that didn't have a face
Like so many soldiers not even a name
Unidentified but a great hero he was
Before he tasted the green of the grass

I went to war to fight for my country
Even though all its plains are now dirty
Covered with corpses, loss and blood
Of my friends who once next to me stood

I used to be proud for what I fought for
I murdered and killed and still wanted more
But the day has come that I saw this madness
My body's defending itself less and less

Will I be a hero if I die in this war
Or will my stories never travel that far
If we gain victory was it because of me
Even though victory's something I'll never see

My body's gone numb, I don't feel the pain
Last thing I wonder: has the world gone insane
The blood flows fast as I lay down my head
I'm leaving the earth with its population gone mad
