Julius Caesar Project Assessment

Choose one of the following projects to complete for a test grade. Notice that some of the choices are group or partner projects while others are individual projects. You must identify which project and important details (who is involved in your group and the scene/part of play you will be addressing) in an outline due to me by November 14th. The project is due on November 16th.

  1. Produce a video to be viewed in class. The video should be approx. 5-10 minutes in length and should incorporate costumes and props. You may perform an important scene, monologue, or soliloquy from the play.

  1. Perform a scene or monologue in class.

  1. Create an “evening news” newscast for events occurring on March 14, 15, or 16 in 44 BC. You may video the newscast or perform it “live” in class.

  1. Create a front page of a newspaper for events occurring on March 14, 15, or 16 in 44 BC. Your front page must follow the guidelines outlined on the handout for this project.

  1. Draw and illustrate a cartoon strip depicting an important scene from the play. Minimum of 6 boxes with the same format as the Antigone comic assignment.

  1. Create a soundtrack for the play with at least 10 songs. Your soundtrack must follow the guidelines outlined on the handout for this project.

  1. Research what actually happened during and shortly after Caesar’s lifetime. Type an essay that a) discusses the historical facts surrounding Caesar, the assassination, and what happened afterwards, and b) compares and contrasts the historical account with Shakespeare’s.

Julius Caesar Soundtrack Assignment

What you will do:

  1. Create a soundtrack for Julius Caesar with at least 10 songs.

a.      You should have 2 songs per Act (5 Acts x 2 songs = 10 songs).

b.      Record the songs in the order in which they would appear in the play.

  1. On a piece of paper, write down all titles and performers for each song in the order in which they appear. Include a brief explanation of why each song fits into the play. Provide the Act and scene number, and explain the action occurring when the song would be playing.
  2. Create a CD cover that illustrates your take on the play. This must be in color! Place this in your jewel case.

What I will look for while grading:

  • QUALITY! QUALITY! QUALITY!
  • 10 songs
  • Titles/performers with GOOD reasons for song inclusion!
  • Where does the song fit in? (chronological order)
  • Cover art fits into play and you put effort into it!
  • EFFORT! EFFORT! EFFORT!

Front Page Roman Newspaper Assignment

Create a front page of a newspaper for events occurring on either March 14, 15, or 16th in 44 BC. Use a posterboard cut in half for your “newspaper” unless you happen to have a newspaper formatting program on your computer.

Your front page must include but is not limited to the following:

Consult a real front page of a newspaper to see how these components are laid out

  1. A banner headline
  2. At least one picture with a caption
  3. The lead story (at least 300 words)
  4. Related story of side bars
  5. Index
  6. Title of newspaper
  7. At least one advertisement

Most importantly, BE CREATIVE! Would a horoscope be appropriate? What other related news would make the front page? Who would have an editorial on the front? How about a weather report? Put yourself in the shoes of a paper editor from ancient Rome: what is most important for the news on the day you have selected? Also, remember what happened already (if, for example, you choose the 16th) or what has not happened yet (if you choose the 14th, did anyone suspect Caesar would be dead the next day?).
