WHAT COMES NEXT

We are going move our Oral Tradition unit focus to the a particularly famous legend. This part of the unit, which will take us to Briton (now Great Brittan) in the early part of the last millennium, requires us to know a lot about one particular man – a man some say was real, and others call a made-up legend. Whatever you choose to believe, get ready to study King Arthur!

To begin our study of King Arthur, we need to get some background information on the myths and stories that surround him. In order to get that information, you are going to complete a group project this week. You will present your group project to the class on Wed., Aug 22. The presentations will serve as “notes” about the different aspects of the King Arthur legend, so later everyone will be quizzed on what you present to the class.

The Group Project

WHO: You and a partner, whom you may choose.

WHAT: You will be given a term that has to do with the King Arthur legend. Your job will be to research that term (find out what it means & why it is important in the King Arthur legend) and present that information in a Powerpoint presentation to your classmates. The Powerpoint presentation must be at least 6 slides long for you to get full credit. The first slide is a title slide (include you and your partner’s names, the title of the term, and your class period), second and third slide will define the term itself, fourth and fifth will relate the term to the legend of King Arthur, and the sixth will be a works cited list (a list of the resources/websites used to get the information in the slideshow).

WHEN: You will have 2 days to work in the computer lab. One day can be spent researching, and then you will have one day to organize your information and create the presentation. You will present your project on Wednesday, August 22 with an LCD projector in the regular classroom.

WHERE: The computer lab in Room 125 on the Green Hall.

WHY: You are completing this project for several reasons. The first is to find out information about the King Arthur legend. You will use this information to help you understand the stories we are going to read in class. The second reason you are completing this project is to practice your skills in Internet research and in creating multimedia presentations. Since you will be presenting this information to the class, you will also practice your presenting and public speaking skills through this project. This project will count as a 25% grade for this unit, so please take it seriously and do your best. You will need to listen and take notes during the presentations on Wednesday/Thursday; you may use your notes for the Quiz on Friday.

HOW: You will work on the project during your class period Monday/Tuesday of this week. You may also work outside of class, either at school (before or after school) or at home.
