Textbooks: Literature: The Reader’s Choice  $61.95, Glencoe

                     The Writer’s Choice $53.97, Glencoe

                     Various novels to be chosen by instructor $14.95

 

Materials Needed: Paper (loose or in a notebook), Pencils, Pens (blue or black ink), and a folder. Student will be responsible for having the above materials every day or he/she is responsible for the work they will not be able to complete based on lack of materials.

                    

Course Description: This course provides an in-depth study of vocabulary, grammar, literature, and composition.  This particular course offers an analytical study of literary genres such as poetry, short stories, and novels, as well as composition and writing and the use of correct grammatical forms, all of which are meant to prepare students for eleventh grade English courses.  Tenth grade English contains a focus on a survey of World Literature.

Grading Policy: 

Summative Assessments:  60%

(tests, projects, class presentations, portfolios, major writing assignments, midterm counts twice)

Formative Assessments:  25%

(quizzes, oral work, writing tasks, graphic organizers, illustrations, homework/class work for accuracy)

Informal:  unweighted (completion grades, homework, daily work)

Final Exam:  15% of final average

 

*Report cards go home every 9 weeks.

*Progress reports go home every 4 ½ weeks.

Recovery Policy:

*Student must have attempted original work on time

*Tutorial & recovery to be completed within 2 weeks  

*Collection of work samples will determine mastery

Tutoring: Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 7:30-8:30am and by appointment
