JENNIFER LETTER 08/30
Sent to Columbus Dispatch August 30, 2004

I keep reading news reports about how Bush limits those who may attend his rallies to staunch Republican supporters. ("Screening can ensure adoring audiences," 8/16/04). In fact, when Bush visited Columbus in August, not only was access limited to his supporters, but a select few of them were chosen to ask him scripted questions. Apparently, this is all done to keep Bushs rallies free from "distractions."

When did the American voter "We the people" - become a "distraction" to a serious candidate?

Kerry lets anyone attend his rallies even those who challenge, question or disagree with him. Kerry seeks out genuine engagement on the real issues.

How can we believe Bushs claim that he is the best man to lead the war on terror, when he is afraid to face the citizens he governs in an open forum?

Kerry faces and addresses challenges and questions directly. And Kerry believes that "We the people" are worth listening to and deserve to be heard.
