HINDA'S LETTER TO THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH IN RESPONSE TO ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER'S SPEECH
Dear Editor,

I am an immigrant, just like Arnold Schwarzenegger but unlike him, I consider myself a Democrat. I find it selfish, egoistic and close-minded to only focus on individualism. My comments to Arnold are:
*I am part of a family, community, city, state and country. I am part of a whole. I do not see myself as only an individual. Greater things are achieved when people work together.
*Unlike what Arnold says during his speech, I believe we ought to respect the United Nations. America is not the only country in the world and should not act as if it was. Look at the results when America acts unilaterally: Iraqs a mess, the rest of the world looks down on us and Americans are suffering from the selfishness of one party rule.
*There are two Americas: Republicans just pretend theres only one and ignore the struggles many Americans face everyday.
*Good leadership is about respecting others, making decisions that are good for everyone, not just one group.

After listening to Arnold describe who Republicans are, I must say that they basically are against what I teach my daughter every day: how to be part of a community, not be selfish, be open-minded, and respect others. I do not want her to grow up thinking the Republican way is the right way. Republicans dont speak for all Americans and Schwarzenegger certainly doesnt speak for all immigrants. It is critical that John Kerry is elected on November 2nd because our children need a strong leader with good moral values who can show what America really is about.

Hinda.
