On Saturday July the 28th. a friend (Bart) & I loaded up my Caspia and his Wilderness Systems Ride & headed for Hackleburg, Ala. for a run down Bear Creek.
We had planned to do the lower end, but a misunderstanding put us at Mill Creek. A little concerned about what might be ahead, I had the assurance from some locals that this was the best part of the run.
The rock cliffs & cuts were awesome!
Not too long into the trip we came across the classII rapids. We both agreed to go to the right of the rapids. Bart went 1st & I soon followed. We both got really wet, so we got out to check out what we just ran & took a break.
After we got back in the creek we realized Factory Falls was just ahead of us. This is a class VI with the pinning rock at bottom of the drop. This is a must portage section.
So after the portage around Factory Falls, it was a scenic float the rest of the way to the Bear Creek Canoe Run offices at the Hwy 43 bridge.
The WS Ride proved it's versatility & did really great. The weather was also great, warm & sunny.
The plans for the next trip will be to get out at Rock Quarry & then be shuttled back to the BCCR office.

Short Trip
On Saturday August 18. We loaded up and kayaked down Bear Creek, putting in at Rock Quarry & getting out at the BCCR Offices. It was about an hour & half trip.
There was a group from Corinth, Ms. to make the same run with us. One guy had his 2 sea kayaks, the sea kayaks did great. This was their 1st time at Bear Creek.
Upper Bear Creek (trip 4)
On Saturday, Sept. 8th, We ran the upper part alone.
Just into the trip we spotted a huge jet black Otter on a rock watching us float by.
Made it over the 1st rapids ok, but the 2nd rapids that has the 2 foot drop didn't not go as well.
I got hungup sideways halfway in the drop. I couldn't get turned straight, so I just pushed down the falls sideways, hit the rock at the bottom causing the kayak to bounce back into the falls & having water fill the Pungo.
Then finished the trip by getting out at Rock Quarry.
BCCR 2002
On Memorial Day May 27th, we made the upper run. The creek was running at 228 CFS instead of the nomral release of 210 CFS But couldn't tell much difference. Had a great run & it was good to be back.On Saturday June 15th. My daughter & I, then a friend & his son
were planning on running the afternoon upper part. But when we got ready to go, it was reported that the water was already dropping at Mill Creek.
So the BCCR guys advised us that it would be best to run the lower part
to stay ahead of the dropping water level.
There were 2 van loads of us that were taken to Rock Quarry.
We missed the indian bathing hole, so maybe next time we can see it. We all had a great time & the weather was GREAT for it to be June.Saturday August 17, some frinds & I made the early upper run.
We had a great time & the weather was great.
I took my digital camera & was able to get some great images of the upper run.
