ECHO

Echo is my first 16mm sync sound project which was co-produced with my classmate and cinematographer, Peggy Weix.  This was shot in color and currently being edited on the Avid system.  This is a big deal to me because I have never shot sync sound before.  What is sync sound?  Sync sound is when you record the picture and sound at the same time.  Bear in mind, the camera is not like a camcorder, sound is recorded separately on either a DAT, Nagra or Minidisc.

In the editing room, the sound and picture have to be synced up, or matched up.  From there, you edit your project to your liking.

Echo is a true story about a young woman, named Irene who has to deal with her mother's suicide.  The story starts with Irene recounting her mother leaving the family at a young age and then her father dying shortly thereafter, thus forcing her to move back in with a mother she did not know or like.  Irene discusses how she has to deal with the struggle of her mother threatening to commit suicide along with constant verbal abuse for the next ten years.

Finally, Irene decides to take the major step to intervene on her mother's behalf, only to be met with major resistance from all her relatives who claim, nothing is wrong with her mother.  This makes Irene feel as if she has done something wrong.

Not long after Irene's mother is released from the hospital, she ends her life with two gun shots.

Now, Irene is left to pick up the pieces by herself.

This story is one that aims to promote awareness in the community that help can be sought, and not to feel wrong or bad when seeking it.

Here are some pictures taken on the set of Echo.

Peggy and Sarah get the equipment ready.

The director says take 30 and we all chow down for dinner.

Okay Angela.  Think, think think... close your eyes and imagine what the proper way to thread the film is...

Woah, we got a new cinematographer... our talent, Irene!

Yeah we're almost all cleaned up, we can go home now!  Look to the right, what a pretty Orchid!

Back to home.
