Trakehner

Trakehners have one of the most restricted studbooks of any Warmblood.  Outcrosses may be made only to Thoroughbreds or Arabians, including Anglo- or Shagya Arabians.  In the best breeding programs, an outcross is made every third generation.
Foals' names traditionally begin with the same letter as that of their dam.  Crossbred colts, however, usually take the first letter of their sire's name instead.
