Game 6 vs. Quakers
Game 6: 9/19/04 vs. Quakers
"We've gotta get more disciplined. We've had a few interesting calls/non-calls go both ways this weekend and the more we argue it the more it's going to hurt us. No more talking to or about the refs. You focus on the game not them. You can't control them. Hard work and discipline will win this game for us." Those were the words head coach Frank DiGangi told his team before the game. There had been some questionable penalties called so far and some missed one as well but the coach laid it down for them before the game. The game started off fast as both teams looked to blow past the other one to move on to the next round. The Quakers came out a bit arrogant and underestimated the dangerous 7th seeded Colonials and they would pay for that as towards the end of the period Drew Perry put a shot on goal and the rebound drew about 5 people near the goalie. He completely lost control of it as Matt Daugherty came in shoved home the goal and it barely crossed the line. The fans erupted as the underdog scored the first goal. Goaltender Geoff Durham made some solid saves to keep his team in it and the period was over. The Quakers came out in the second period mad and seemed to lose control. Everyone was screaming on their bench and taking bad penalties but the Colonials stood strong and didn't even focus on that part of the game. A penalty filled period ended with a 2 on 1 by Mikey Lundberg and Anthony Matarazzo. Lundberg put the puck over the sliding defenseman, slightly behind Matarazzo but Anthony readjusted and turned to his backhand facing the wrong direction and slammed it through the goalie's fivehole in what was an extremely pretty goal with only .4 seconds left in the period! It was a heartbreaker for the Quakers, who had all the pressure on them in their home rink. As time wound against them they just got dirtier and red, white and blue just got smarter and ended the game with a 2-0 shutout, Durham's second in as many games. It was a huge win for the team and they would move on to the semifinals.
Daugherty (Perry)
