Game 53: 3/20/05 vs. NECDL Stars (W 4-3)

This was it. The Championship game for all the marbles. The Colonials wanted it bad and it showed in the first period by scoring 3 goals in a 5 minute span. In the second the Stars got one back mid way through the period and cut the deficit to one late in the second on the power play. We lost some focus in that period by taking six penalties. In addition, injuries were talking a toll. Buzz left the game with an injured knee and Lundberg missed several shifts when he was slashed in the leg. Cassidy was out the entire game due to a shoulder injury he received in the previous game and Ferris played only several shifts due to an arm injury also received the previous day. We were banged up with a short bench but we shined in the third period. We kept the Stars at bay with solid defense by Formichella and Tucci and goaltending by Durham. With a little over a minute remaining the Stars pulled their goalie for an extra attacker. Tucci gathered the puck on the ensuing face off and sent it down the ice towards the Stars open net. The puck barely made it there but it went in the net off the right post for a 4-2 Colonials lead. The goal was crucial because the Stars scored their third goal with only 11 seconds remaining, When the horn sounded the Colonials could finally celebrate their Championship win. It was a great ending to a wonderful season.
