Game 52 vs. NECDL Stars
Game 52: 3/19/05 vs. NECDL Stars (W 1-0)
(Written by team manager Dennis Visnovsky)
We battled this select team from Massachusetts in the most intense physical game of the tournament as well as for the entire Colonials season. There were plenty of hard hits and crunching checks at both ends of the ice. The Stars tried to use their muscle to wear us down but we would have none of it. We fought back with our own brand of physical play as well as with our speed and passing to keep the Stars at bay. Both opposing goalies were magnificent in net making save after save and keeping the game scoreless. With the clock running down and only a minute and a half to go in the game each team did not want to make a mistake that might cost them the game. The stage was set for a very dramatic ending. With the puck in the Stars zone we attempted a shot that was blocked by a Stars player resulting in the puck heading up ice into our zone. A Stars player picked up the puck and skated in all alone on Visnovsky. Eric came out to challenge and held his ground forcing the Stars player to shoot early with Eric making the save of the game for the Colonials. With less than 20 seconds to go and the puck in the Stars zone Daugherty passed to DeFranco who then found Genualdi open with a great pass who then proceeded to put the puck in the net for a 1-0 Colonials lead with 13 seconds to play. It was satisfying ending to a hard fought contest. The next day the two teams would meet again this time for the Championship game. The Colonials being the # 1 seed and the NECDL Stars # 2 seed.
Genualdi (DeFranco, Daugherty)
Eric Visnovsky: 21 saves (0 goals allowed)
