Game 48 vs. Brick
Game 48: 2/27/05 vs. Brick (W 5-2)

After spanking the Penguins, the Colonials knew the next game would be a little tougher. They would face off against a solid Brick team, which had beaten them 5-4 in only their second league game. Brick was headed to district playoffs next weekend so this would be a good match for both teams. The game was held at Ocean Ice Palace and it was a fun one to watch. The Colonials were short a few players and were light on defense, dropping Jay Sogliuzzo back to help. Even without those players they came out strong however. Mikey Lundberg gave a puck over to Matt Daugherty high in the zone, he brought it into the slot and fired a puck that deflected off the goalie's blocker and in for the first goal of the game. They wouldn't let up there as Brian Dixon gave a nice pass over to Lundberg who brought it through the crease and was patient enough to wait until the goalie was down and work it around him, putting it into the empty net. Steve Genualdi would round out the Colonial attack as he picked up on a rebound and got a few whacks at it before finally banging it home to put his team up 3-0. It was a fantastic start that no one really expected and everyone knew that it wasn't over yet. This team hadn't qualified for districts just on their looks. They started to come back with some tough hitting, including a nasty one on defenseman Nick Ferris behind the net, causing him to leave the game. Brian Dixon dropped back to help out the D, leaving two forwards back there with two defenseman. Brick would score a breakaway goal but it wouldn't slow the hard working Colonials down. Mike Formichella caught a pass from Jordan Tucci and fired a puck on net. The Brick goalie kicked out a juicy rebound right to Lundberg's stick and he put it home for his second goal of the game. Brick would rebound again however with another breakaway to cut the lead to 4-2. It was a tight game and the Colonials were looking for the back breaker late. They would get just that as Daugherty completed a strong game by threading a pass through the neutral zone just past a defenseman's stick to his linemate Corey DeFranco who was off on a breakaway. He made a nice move to his backhand and went upstairs over the goalie's glove to put the game out of reach. The game would end 5-2 with a stellar 24 save effort from Eric Visnovsky. Lundberg finished with 2 goals and an assist and Daugherty had a goal and two assists.
