Game 43 vs. Ice House Avalanche
Game 43: 2/05/05 vs. Ice House Avalanche (W 2-1)
The Colonials came home to Mennen Arena to begin the first of their final non-league games. The season will most likely end with a tournament in March and these will be tuneup games before then. The first game is a familiar opponent, the Avalanche. So far the Colonials had beaten them once and tied them twice, all close games. Tonight wouldn't be any different. Both goalies started the game strong as Chris Fyfe and Geoff Durham pitched a shutout in the first period and the score would remain 0-0. The action was going back and forth as both of these teams are almost identical to each other. The score would remain tied until late in the second period when Jordan Tucci would keep a puck in at the blue line, step around the forward and fire a puck that went off the goalie's blocker and up into the net. The crowd cheered but things would change on the very next shift. Jeff Schmidt of the Avalanche would take a puck down the ice, deke around the defenseman and go in on a breakaway. He dragged it across the net and just slid it through Durham to tie the game. From there on out the game would continue to go back and forth with both goalies receiving some close calls. It would remain deadlocked until about halfway through the third when Brian Dixon would bring a puck into the zone, catch the goalie leaning and fire it past the blocker again to give his team the 2-1 lead. The Avalanche pulled the goalie late to give them a 6 on 4 advantage with the Colonials already shorthanded but to no avail, the home team played tough D and the 2-1 lead would stand up. Durham would finish with 33 saves and the Colonials improve to 22-13-8 on the year.
Tucci (unassisted)
