Game 41 vs. Bridgewater Bears
Game 41: 1/29/05 vs. Bridgewater Bears (L 5-3)
The rematch against the Bears-probably the most important game this team would play all year. This game would basically decide who goes to district playoffs. Last week the Bears won a game in which the Colonials seemed flat, this time the tone would be different. A packed Mennen crowd saw a great game Saturday night that went back and forth all night. After being shutout for the first time all year last weekend the Colonials drew first blood tonight as Mike Formichella sprung Buzz Sobieski out of the zone. He had Mikey Lundberg to his left but took it on his own and deked the goalie and put it in for the first goal of the game. The Bears would fight back though as they worked the puck down low and picked up some garbage left in front of the net to tie the game. They would score again after that to make the score 2-1 after the first period. The Colonials poured it on in the second period however and regained their composure. Lundberg gave a pass over to Sobieski who took it in again by himself and made a similar move on the goalie but this time went backhand over the blocker to tie the game. On the very next play, Brian Dixon stole a puck from the Bears as they were trying to break out of the zone and Dave Magnollay picked it up and surprised the Bears goalie to give his team the lead 3-2. The third period would decide this game though and the Bears just wouldn't go away. The Bears kept picking up loose pucks around the net, even though Eric Visnovsky was standing on his head trying to keep his team in it. The nail in the coffin would be a point shot that found its way into the top of the net. The Bears would take the game 5-3 and it was over. The Bears had eliminated the Colonials from district contention.
