Game 36 vs. NJ Devils
Game 36: 1/08/05 vs. NJ Devils (W 7-3)
The Colonials are fully aware that with only 5 league games remaining, if they win them all they are guaranteed a spot in district playoffs in Voorhees, NJ. The urgency is there but there are still a few spoilers out there that can ruin this, the Devils being one of them. The Colonials skated into South Mountain Arena in West Orange, NJ for a Saturday evening match with the junior Devils and this one was ugly on both sides. The Devils caught the Colonials sleeping early as they jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead. It shocked the away team and you could tell the tension was there. Corey DeFranco decided to calm things down and take control. He had numerous scoring chances in front of the net but couldn't seem to cash in, one hitting the crossbar and one going over the net into the crowd. Finally, one of them paid off as Ryan Cassidy sent him a pass down low and DeFranco took it out in front of the net and put it over the Devils goaltender. The flood gates opened from there. Brian Dixon stepped over the blue line and rifled a wrister top shelf over the goalie's blocker. The score was now tied but there was no stopping there. The Colonials continued to pour shots on the Devils. Buzz Sobieski scored the next two, one of them off a nice faceoff move and Dixon scored two more after that to complete the hat trick. The Devils would add another but it wouldn't matter as Mikey Lundberg would add the nail in the coffin as the final score was 7-3. Eric Visnovsky would finish with 15 saves. The Colonials improve to 10-2-3 in league play.
