Game 2 vs. Comets
Game 2: 9/11/04 vs. Comets

The Colonials arrived at the rink early on Saturday and prepared for their home opener. The team was still getting used to each other before the game but by the time this one was over they learned a bit more about themselves. Coach DiGangi was talking to a few USA Hockey Officals at the rink before the game and here's what he had to say. "Right now we're just trying to get the kids to learn each other, understand the way everyone on the team plays and what to do to come together as a team to win." The AA team did just that as they skated in a rematch of last week's game against the Comets. The visitors came prepared this time as they were embarassed 8-3 in the last game. Assistant coach Ed Formichella was quoted saying "They were ready for us this time and they definitely did their homework." Comets goaltender Mark Curran was on top of his game as he stopped 6 straight Colonials scoring chances to start the game. The seventh would go in however as Justin Sobieski stepped out from behind the net with two options and decided to take it himself and backhand it past the goalie to put his team up 1-0. The home team drew first blood and they didn't stop there. Drew Perry found Mike Postorino in front of the net on the power play and he banged it home for his team's second goal of the night. The second period would prove more of the same as Curran tried desperately to keep his team in it but to no avail as Steve Genualdi banged home his first of the year assisted by Sobieski and then Buzz put in one of his own as he finished with 2 goals and an assist, the last one being assisted by defenseman Jordan Tucci. His team was up and the defense, led by newly named captain Mike Formichella was playing tough. Jackson Udelsman had the hit of the game as he pinned a Comet forward againt the boards that drew cheers from the crowd. This is when things began to get ugly. The Colonials were called for two straight 5 minute major power plays as they hung together as a team and wouldn't let anything dirty get through their end of the ice. They killed them off with ease including an excellent backcheck by Corey DeFranco to negate a 2 on 1 odd man rush. Goaltenders Eric Visnovsky and Geoff Durham had 6 saves each and combined for the shutout as the game ended 4-0.
