Game 29 vs. Red Bank Generals
Game 29: 12/04/04 vs. Red Bank Generals (T 2-2)

After ending the Binghamton tournament with a tough loss that was all too hard to swallow the Colonials were looking for blood as they returned to league play against a team that is in front of them in the standings, the Red Bank Generals. Head Coach Frank DiGangi laid it down for his team in the locker room before the game. "Take a bad penalty and you're going to sit. It's just that simple. We're averaging 14 penalty minutes per game and it's unacceptable." The team understood and responded with some smart play. It was a very even match and both teams were skating hard to start. It was Saturday night hockey at its best. The Colonials set up in the Red Bank zone and continued to fire pucks at Tyler Jackson, the Generals goalie. Finally one of them went in. Matt Daugherty gave the puck to Corey DeFranco who brought it in to the goalie's left. He made some moves showing off his quick hands and brought it to his backhand and put it past Jackson for the early lead. The Generals would fire right back though as their quick transition paid off and #28 Mollica brought a puck around the defense and leaned into a deke that pulled goaltender Geoff Durham across the net but he just couldn't reach far enough and the game was tied. The second period would be more of the same. The Colonials would be rewarded with a power play and they went to work in the zone. Steve Genualdi fired a pass from behind the net that DeFranco quickly one timed past Jackson to give his team the 2-1 lead. It would be short lived however as the Generals would come back on the very next shift and fire back with a goal of their own. It was a shot that fooled Durham and went off of his glove and laid there in the crease. He tried to dive across to stop it but Mollica got to the puck first and put it in. The game was tied after 2. The third period was very exciting as the Colonials seemed to dominate. Matt Fullam, Drew Perry and Brian Dixon all had great scoring chances all alone with the goalie but just couldn't put them in and the game would end in a tie. A great game where both goalies played exceptionally well. Durham finished with 22 saves and Jackson with 29. The Colonials gain a point and travel to Hollydell tomorrow to face the Hurricanes.
