Game 27 vs. Binghamton Senators
Game 27: 11/27/04 vs. Binghamton Senators (T 2-2)
The Colonials skated into the beautiful Broome County Community College Arena as they got to play the hometown Binghamton Senators who had yet to lose as well. It was a packed house on hand to watch the game and these two teams did not dissapoint at all. The Colonials wanted to set the tone early and often and came out firing on all cylinders. Mike Postorino came in on the very first shift and put a shot on net that hit the post. They were trying to get to Senators all star goalie Tommy Marino as much as they could and it was working. After hitting the post the Colonials crashed the net and tried to create traffic as much as possible. Brian Dixon would pick up the puck in front of the net and put it in past Marino to give his team the early lead. Things were looking up, or so they thought as they went on the power play. They set up in the zone but the Senators would steal a play out of the Colonials playbook and play agressive penalty kill. The puck came out to a covered point and the Sens forward pushed the puck out of the zone and he was off on a breakaway. Goaltender Geoff Durham did all he could but the move was just too much and he slid it in along the ice after a nice deke. The period ended 1-1 but the Colonials just couldn't seem to hold it as the quick Senators forwards kept the pressure on. The same forward who scored the first breakaway goal would get another as he avoided a check at the blue line and moved in 1 on 1. He leaned around the defense and moved in for another nice move and another goal. The Colonials found themselves down 2-1 after two periods and the clock was against them. With about 7 minutes left in the game the Colonials set up on the power play again hoping for better outcomes. Anthony Matarazzo set up a screen in front of Marino and the puck came to team captain Mike Formichella. He wound up and fired a rising puck that went around everyone, off the right post and in. The crowd erupted as the score was tied. Marino and Durham would exchange saves for the rest of the game keeping their teams in it as much as possible and the score would end in a tie.
Dixon (unassisted)
Formichella (unassisted)
