Game 21 vs. Hudson Valley Polar Bears
Game 21: 11/13/04 vs. Hudson Valley Polar Bears (L 3-1)
The rematch was set. The Hudson Valley Polar Bears skated into Mennen Arena Saturday night for a non-league game against the Colonials. The last time these two teams played at the Silver Sticks tournament it got ugly. The Bears would waltz in fired up and score 6 goals in the first period and roll onto a 7-2 victory sending the Colonials home and they would eventually beat Brick in the finals 3-0 to win the tourney. This time would be a little different but still with the same outcome. The Colonials would actually come out and draw first blood this time as Brian Dixon gave the puck to Drew Perry behind the net and he walked it out right in front, made a move on a defenseman and fired a puck through the goalie for a little revenge. The pace of the game was very high and the Polar Bears were flying. You know that you couldn't keep them down long, especially for a team that could play at the AAA level if they were an NJ team instead of NY. They fought back with a goal of their own to tie and then went ahead 2-1 on a heartbreaking goal off a 2 on 1 with 1 second left in the period. The Colonials knew they could skate with them though and kept the score close and had good offensive pressure but couldn't seem to come up with anything. Dixon, Buzz Sobieski and Mikey Lundberg all hit a post, which really seemed to deflate them and the Polar Bears came back to put another one on the board and that's how it would end 3-1. It was a much closer game then last time and the Colonials proved that they could skate with a top tier team. Sometimes certain teams just have your number though. The Colonials go back to league play on Sunday when they travel to the Ice House in Hackensack, NJ to face off against the Avalanche, a team that they are tied with in the standings.
